991 GT3 RS - Paint To Sample - Idea's Please
Discussion
Hi there lucky enough to be getting my hands on a 991 GT3 RS and without sounding ungrateful, I'm a little underwhelmed by the four colour choices
White - good RS colour , but done to death lately.
GT Silver Metallic - really great colour and really suits the RS - however , its a little tame for an RS
Ultraviolet - no thanks
Lava Orange - its quite nice - but quite nice shouldn't be a reason to choose it ?(looks slightly flat and washed out in real life - no where near as rich and deep as the rendered images) Also its now a standard Porsche colour - surely the launch RS colour should be kept for the RS ?
OK so we have PTS - any suggestions please ; I have decided I don't want to go Riviera , Mexico or Voodoo , as much as I like them , they seem to be becoming a standard choice on GT cars.
I quite fancy Signal Yellow , but I'm not sure if historically this was ever an RS colour ?
Lastly , has anyone gone PTS and been given the old "you can have it but it will delay your car 100 years" line from their OPC ? My car is a November build ( I assume there is some truth in this depending on the colour that you choose?)
Discuss .......................... please - if you don't mind

It's RS blue I believe , you're probably getting confused with Nogaro blue which is a bit different (google image search to see).
OP, as I understand it if you choose a colour that Porsche have used before then it shouldn't be much/any delay. The big delays are when it's a colour they've not done before, I.e. when they really are making a paint to sample (be that sample a nail varnish, or other manufacturer's colour etc), in this case they take months to formulate the paint and test it etc over a period of a few months before they're happy enough to paint and guarantee a whole car in the chosen colour.
Cheers - good to know - I have the list and it runs to 4 pages I think - must be one on there OP, as I understand it if you choose a colour that Porsche have used before then it shouldn't be much/any delay. Maritime is nice, definitely.
The second one is Audi RS Blue I believe, possibly very similar to Nogaro Blue. I don't think it is on the current approved list of custom colours.
I've just been through this with my GT4 and settled on Voodoo. I was close to going for Maritime though.
Good choice - hard to tell the difference between Voodoo and Maritime - is Maritime a bit darker in real life ? The second one is Audi RS Blue I believe, possibly very similar to Nogaro Blue. I don't think it is on the current approved list of custom colours.

My minty GT3 has put smiles on many people's faces and brightened up many a car park! If you don't like attention though you're best steering clear.
Loved he comment from a van full of Polish builders once along the lines of ' nice car mate but st colour'. Each to their own I guess
I'm a big fan of Maritme blue too. I'd say if you're gonna be a bear, be a grizzly - PTS is a great opportunity to create something a little special.
Whatever colour you chose I'm sure it'll look fantastic!

Couldn't agree more. I was flicking through my photo stream and of the 20 or so pics I took at the PH Silverstone Porsche Experience Sunday Service a quarter are of a mint green 997 GT3 which I presume from the plate must be yours. I was hoping to recreate the look if I was lucky enough to get one of the GT4 allocations. Sadly no luck but hopefully someone will be brave enough!
I think for this reason alone , you should have been top of the list for a GT4 . Saw one at the Silverstone RS launch - really is a pretty car - don't give up keep a deposit in and if you are patient you never know - I know of people who got GT3's very , very late in the day Fingers crossed.mdianuk said:
RSVP911, have you seen the GT4 colour thread...fairly decent representation of both standard colours (albeit not RS orange or purple) as well as a range of custom colours, http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
It's not a thread I've followed - thanks for the tip kbooker said:
Mint Green is one of my favourite Porsche colours and looks fabulous on the 7.2 GT3, not sure if it would work on an RS though? Years ago I had a 993 painted in Viola metallic which always drew compliments
Searched on Viola and ended up finding Aubergine - stunning colour , not sure it's right for an RS but it's really sophisticated - yep not sure sophisticated and 991 RS are two things that go together kbooker said:
Just googled Viola and actually found the ad for my car when I sold it back in 2009 https://www.classicdriver.com/de/car/porsche/911-9... it looked very dark on overcast days but bright sunshine really lifted the colour
Poor you - that is a stunning car ! I guess Viola is a darker metallic version of Aubergine ? Edited by kbooker on Saturday 20th June 09:33
I have to say I love a colour thread
