Weekend with a 911 SC
Discussion
Really enjoyed tinkering with a car again this weekend; 1981 911 SC in Guards Red.
A trip through the New Forest with everybody (seriously everybody) staring at the car, whether on the move or parked up.
The smell of petrol along with old car charms - handbrake spring snapped :-).
Gave the old girl a clay bar treatment today, I can't imagine it's ever been done. The paint work now feels like glass. The amount of crud on the clay bar was ridiculous.
For me it's a strange post when somebody queries air-cooled vs water cooled purchase. They're so different, I'd never have this car as a daily, complete PITA. But, for a weekend in summer, it's wonderful, truly wonderful.
Managed to source some second hand fog lights to be fitted shortly, thanks for the advice from PHers to use impact bumpers for for that.
The rear bumper looks like it's had some paint at some point recently - the garage didn't remove the tape over the black rubber between the bumper and rear wing :-). Removed now but see picture.
JMG are looking after the old girl now. Looks, drives and sounds better each time I see it.
Question - why does going into second gear make such a 'thunk'? No grinding etc, just a big thunk.

It kind of goes into second, then you have to pull it a bit further, then thunk.
If they all do it, it's one thing off the list. Thanks!
Doesn't sound right. Are we talking 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 2nd. Either way, change might be sedate, but should be smooth yet positiveIt kind of goes into second, then you have to pull it a bit further, then thunk.

Is that the same car? Has a different tail in this photo i.e. C3.2 tail which does look quite a lot better on the SC than the Turbo tail.Adam B said:

Great car, but I struggle with the rear spoiler. Ruins the car IMO, but well aware others love it.
This is how I prefer mine

(I would remove spoiler and drive slower personally)
Would be boring if we all liked the same thing.
Looks like spoilers are coming back in fashion :-)
After all, 911's are bought for handling in the main
