04 Cayenne S

My first post in the Porsche section I think so be gentle.

My old man gets his new Macan S in October which means he wants me to sell his 2004 Cayenne S. I think I might sell it to myself as I have not scratched the Porsche itch yet but a 3 and 5 yr old means I need a bigger car so this would replace my X5.

Anyway, if you're buying a used car, my old man is the sort you'd want to buy from. It's black with the tan leather He's had it from 6 months old, it's only done 80,000 gentle miles and has a bulletproof Porsche main dealer service history with every receipt and record. It doesn't have the adjustable suspension but at this age, that strikes me as one major thing that never has to go wrong so not worried about that so can any of you chaps in the know, suggest some key things that I should check over, look at before I take the plunge?

Thanks guys. I have read a bit about the coolant pipes. Not terribly fussed about disks and pads as that's a job I can do myself.

This one's a V8 S model. Just wondering if there were any major issues such as the fragile gear boxes you find on early 2000s BMW 3.0 Diesels for example. I understand that in general the engines are pretty good.

Only issue you are going to have is price. Don't just check dealers, check sold prices on the Bay etc, as it might be significantly less than your Dad thinks it might be.

I'm thiking about £6.5-7K based on the current adverts and it's missing a couple of the high specd items like the adjustable suspension and NAV system for examples.

Just a standard head unit. Don't really care, have Nav in my phone for the occasion I need it.

Agreed but for a family lugger for a little time....

A 911 would be a third car which I can't afford but I still have the M3 for track which in current spec frankly <dons flame suit> butchers many of Stuttgart's finest.

To resurrect. I held my breath and bought it. So much car for little cash I couldn't not. Very happy at the moment as it's my first Porsche. It's aboslutely minty mint as well with full PDSH, all bills, spare set of wheels with winter tyres. Black with tan leather and BOSE. Shall be changing the head unit to something more modern that can connect with iphone etc. but that's about it.

God it's thirsty!

I had a 05 S for a couple of years and it was a brilliant car. I managed 21mpg on odd occasions, but if you use the engine it drinks like Gazza on a night out with Jimmy 5 bellies!

The only other thing to watch for is a slight misfire, the early ignition coils (8 separate coils) tended to crack and cause a hesitation/misfire. I think there has been a number of updates, costs about 300 pounds for all coils and plugs to be replaced.

No mis-fire apparent but shall look out for it. Old man literally just had it serviced a couple of weeks before I picked it up with some new brake disks as well so should be dandy for now.

I do indeed Matt but don't get invovled in the chat anymore as it's not what it was. Just pop by checking the classifieds every so often. Still 2 x e36 in the stable. The M3 and a 323 sport touring which still only has 80k on the clock and runs perfectly!
