As we don't have a specific 911R thread (apart from one pointing to what else may be at Geneva), I thought it would be worth having one.

First details have been leaked, http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche/911/94601/new...

What are general opinions? Do we think this will be a limited run 911 or similar to the Cayman R, a raid on the parts bin and available to all?

Can we see this car being the desired 911 in the range?

Discuss...

So diverting away from LOI's etc (I may reach out to my contact, see if I can have one ha), what makes this car so very special compared to a GT3RS? I always assume (wrongly!) that the 'R' of current generations is just Porsche's way of using up the parts bin!

To be fair, that's not accurate at all.

If the rumours are to be believed:
- 6-speed manual gearbox
- Updated engine

Which for many people will make a massive difference!

However, if the rumours around the GT3.2 are to be believed, this will also have the same gearbox as an option, so not clear what the 'R" offers above the GT3.2, particularly when you actually might have half a chance of getting a GT3.2...
I think he was saying in terms of looking at it, it will look similar, not that there isn't much different under the skin.

Thanks, hadn't spotted that one, but still, we have another to talk about depreciation and flippers!

Like it, apart from the side strips, not sure they match with the red (why not red). Want one though, may have a shot biggrin

with 30 odd UK cars no chance of me getting one over the bigger players at my OPC.
What was the user name change all about then? Aside from wishing to return here under the radar.

22kg saved on manual box and single mouth flywheel, plus what, 10kg saved on air-con and pcm etc; they've not saved a lot of weight elsewhere have they!

It makes a mockery of this situation though when the boy on Youtube can jump all the 30 year loyalists and get a GT4 just because he makes some cringeworthy videos. Highlights their real agenda, very different company these days.
Well, a Porsche loyalist cannot become one until they actually become one! The situation is no different aside from the difficulty in obtaining a specific car. I'm relatively young (!!!), new to a specific dealer, managed to acquire a GT4...comes down to effort put in, how they see you and your worth to them long term...and I don't make videos btw biggrin
