Hoping for some insight into the likely problem?

Picked up my beautiful new Spyder an hour ago and lost the clutch on the drive home. Pedal is down to the floor. I can pull it back but goes straight back to the floor once depressed.

Waiting for the recovery vehicle frown

Just home - it soon got much worse than just a dodgy clutch!

Porsche Recovery sent out one of their "approved" companies to recover the car back to Porsche Cardiff. The vehicle that arrived was patently not fit for loading a relatively low car. The guy eventually got it on using various planks of wood!

The really bad bit was that on arrival back at the OPC it was apparent that both rear wheels (which had been strapped down), had been damaged in the process.

To say I'm pi$$ed off is an understatement. I can forgive a rogue mechanical gremlin but I really cannot forgive a car being damaged during recovery. The fact that it had less than 40 miles on the clock and was half an hour old just made it all the more frustrating.

I'll await contact on Tuesday but have mentioned that the wheels need to be replaced.

On a semi positive note, the car was absolutely fantastic before it ground to a halt!

Just frustrating. The clutch was bad enough but damaging a car during recovery is just inexcusable.

The 26 miles I covered with an operating clutch were awesome. What a fantastic car.

Still...I expected more from Porsche. Their recovery service was comedically bad!

Was the dealer and recovery driver made aware of the damage at the time?

Hope you get sorted pronto and they give you something nice to drive in the mean time.

Yes they were. Although since Porsche Recovery arranged the collection the issue is back to them. The fact that it was one of their "preferred" independents who took the job on is irrelevant to me - I'm dealing with Porsche.

Again, Porsche Recovery arranged a hire car for me not the local dealer - a BMW estate. So no upside!

imv you have been subjected to the full wrath of Cardiff opc for flipping your long awaited GT4 to their nemesis at Porsche Silverstone,i bet you all the staff were sniggering when you drove off in your new pride and joy;).This was obviously a pure and wanton act of deliberate sabotage out of vengeance!.Next time you call in there for a coffee ask the DP to first take a sip just in case its laced with laxatives or other ills.
I never touch the refreshments!

GT4 sold then For that mint green thing ?
Yep px'd it against the GTS which is a phenomenal car.

And for 26 miles the Spyder for me was a much more fun experience than the GT4. A totally brilliant car - when you have a clutch! I'd have absolutely no hesitation in picking it over the GT4.

Terrible luck there. I wouldn't like to think how I felt if I had issues with a brand new car on the drive home. And to then have it damaged. Not good enough.
Beggars belief frankly.

Let's not go overboard over what was I'm sure a flippant remark - given that there are only two damaged wheels!

Hey Chris. It was a very unfortunate start to my ownership and almost heartbreaking to see it damaged whilst being recovered!

Are you still in Whitchurch? Good to see you keeping an eye on the forum biggrin

I'm a different Chris ... but I would be really fed-up if it were me. And because I have bought a spare set of wheels for my GT4 I was suggesting a solution that could cost the dealer nothing and at least say a credibly "sorry" ...
I hope my comments came across as constructive ...
I had no problem with your suggestion.

There was a post on the Bixster Spyder thread where a new Spyder owner was given an extra years warranty and a free service or two (can't recall exactly) for his trouble when he had a clutch issue.

Thank you.

The dealer is being as helpful as they can be. I popped in this morning to get an update and the problem had been diagnosed as a pipe connection failure - or something like that. New parts ordered.

They also got me out of the BMW hire car and put me into one of their 911's. When the car is up on the ramp I can call in and check for any other damage.

I've also registered a complaint with BMW GB who seemed keen to offset the blame onto Porsche Assistance (basically The AA!!).

I'll be much happier when I discover that new wheels have been ordered.

Have they given you a timeframe for fixing the issue and replacing the wheels? I can imagine you are desperate for the car back given the weather was specifically arranged for your new cars arrival.
The replacement clutch pipe should be on site tomorrow. Not sure about the wheels yet but I'll find out tomorrow.

I had booked this week off work to take the car out (given that the weather looked good). It won't be quite so easy to plan another week as I now have meetings booked into my diary.

I'd ideally like it back with everything addressed rather than having to go back and forth again.
