I am getting bored reading the posts from the same people over and over again about 718 engines and GT4 values so thought I would start a proper whinge in true Pistonheads style:

WTF is going on with Cayman drivers, usually GTS owners, who drive around everywhere with the spoiler extended? You know who you are. I counted three today on the commute. It's not a GT4, so why try to make it look like one?

Oh, and Panamera drivers are just as bad, but that's probably because the car has the profile of a pooing dog.

Rant over.

Glad you all agree.

One Carmine CGTS owner on the M25 this evening could be seen admiring his raised spoiler in stationary traffic. If I hadn't been going the other way I would have got out and slapped him.

It's the Porsche equivalent to putting an 'M' badge on a 320d, or slapping Golf GTi alloys on a 1.4TSI. It should be illegal and perpetrators should be publically shamed.

Haven't seen Boxster owners doing it though. Seems to be the Cayman/Panamera fraternity.

Even dealers are doing it. Boycott immediately.

Hmm, I don't think the plod argument holds merit anymore. The rozzers need more than a spoiler up to do you for speeding.

I don't think anyone on here will criticise raising the spoiler for detailing work.

'Forgetting' to put it back down is another matter. Surely you would see it up the next time you walk out to the car, and, not being a knobber you would think to yourself, 'hmm, I must put that spoiler down before driving away.'

At that point, if you drive away with it up, you have instantly become a tool. :-)

This also seems to be an issue with our American friends, and isn't exclusive to Porsche. Here is a Jag owner showing his lack of class

I'll hold my hand up, I normally leave the spoiler up on mine all the time.

Brave man.

May I ask why? Do you have to make a conscious effort to press and hold the button every time you start it?

OMG! What a miserable bunch of petty whingers we have in our midst. If someone prefers the spoiler up look, let them put their spoiler up for goodness sake. It's an aesthetic subjective choice as much as colour, wheels, decals whatever. Get a life.
Oops, looks like you missed the (mostly) light hearted nature of this particular thread- or maybe you're just one of those guys that likes to keep your spoiler up because it makes you a better driver??

Hmm so where does that leave me ! ....
No issues with fixed spoilers on GT cars. No issue with retractable spoilers on non-GT cars. Major issue with retractable spoilers being forced into the up position all the time and especially when parked or in traffic.

Indeed, very lighthearted. 'Major issue!' Good grief. Do some gardening or something to calm down. If people like the look they like the look, so bleeding what! The last thing the world needs is stuffy anal spoiler police.
You're one of 'them' aren't you.... Bet you put he spoiler up AND turn the PSE on in town. Do you have a GTS number plate?

st I've just realized I've left my GT4 wing in its erect maximum downforce mode after the Spa track day. Do I need to sprint outside and adjust it back before I get reported to the knob police yikes
A distinct difference between a fixed (but adjustable) wing over an auto extending/retracting system that is speed based and spoils lift as opposed to provides downforce.

It's like driving around with a Nurburgring sticker on your Vauxhall Astra SRi, or going to a Porsche Experience Day wearing a nomex racing suit and racing shoes.

On an early morning run through my village I was highly amused to see an Agate Grey Cayman GTS. Reg G N1OLAN driving past the school at 20mph, with the spoiler raised, thus immediately confirming the points made on this thread.

No GTS number plate though, and I couldn't tell if PSE was on or not as I had the iPod plugged in, but still marked out as a bit of a knobber...

Unfortunately the 911R has full bellend potential as can be seen in this shot. Although I agree a lack of fixed wing makes it a cleaner design. Won't stop people putting it up when completely unnecessary.

As for not being allowed to mention running on your legs on Pistonheads forums, that is simply the stupidest thing I've read on here today, and right up there with 'retractable spoiler extended while parked' muppetry.

I also agree on the R...the stripes don't work as the car is too big.

I detest the rear spoiler on my 997RS, and the silly stickers. It's very much an 'ip early mountain hooner', if I need to drive it through town on way back then balaclava and sunglasses are worn.
I have no problems with the 2.7 ducktail and RS mega wing. They are fixed and part of the core design of the car. This thread is about extending retractable spoilers when not required by the car's systems. It's done by people who think it looks cool and want their car to look more like your two cars above.

Really ?? Didn't think I was buying into such automobile snobbery. As a law abiding motorist I'm destined to never see my car with it's spoiler raised and, in my opinion, looking at it's best. This is a matter of choice and each to their own I say. What next, perhaps a thread criticising turbo/gt wheels on a base model (anyone ducking behind the settee ? ) -how very dare they !!!!rolleyes
Not at all. The basic foundation of this thread (and I'm on the train back from London and I've had a few so I maybe wrong) is that, frankly, if you have a car with a retractable spoiler and you choose to raise it outside of its automatic envelope, you are in fact a short peniused tosser.

Another day on Surrey's roads and more Cayman GTS owners letting the side down. The only mitigation here is that the number plate is missing a GTS. Still ticks the knobber box however.

I think this might be a Turbo. And if it wasn't originally, it almost certainly is now...
