991 GT3 RS - buy now or wait?
Discussion
Hi all. This is my first post although I've lurked on here for quite some time especially around the GT threads.
I'm a previous GT owner who is struggling with when to get into a 991 RS as the prices seem to be following a very different trajectory to previous versions.
Having not been given an allocation for a 991.1 RS (that's a whole different story) I've looked at buying second hand but have been reluctant to pay 100k overs as I think that premium could evaporate quickly and I'll take a massive hit on the car - personal opinion. I want to get one to DRIVE and TRACK not to collect.
That said I've been tracking the market since these came out and it seems that since the past 3-4 months the market has changed: either cars are hanging around eg Romans had a LO and Silver one for quite some time and both recently "vanished" from their site (or not showing as sold) then two more appeared last week at c.15k lower than the previous two and/or prices are softening - 280 asking down to 250 nowadays for RHD cars with no miles (no miles after a year - criminal).
These are without question great cars and IMHO represent Porsche at the top of its game. So my question is only when is the right time to get one: do people think now is a good time to pick one of these up or is the price fall just gathering steam? Given the prices, buying at the wrong time could result in people seriously losing their shirt. Taking into account a 20k margin for a dealer, a person who bought at 280k (some shifted at that price) less than a year ago would likely be bid 220-230 now. That's a MASSIVE hit by any standards.
Thoughts greatly appreciated.

Cheers for the thoughts so far. Seems to be a consistent view forming.
Interestingly JZM are showing an incoming Silver RS with a Matte wrap for 240. Haven't seen the pictures yet but sounds very very similar to the Romans matte silver one for 255 that Vanished their website.
If these cars get to sub 200 I reckon they will be a bargain relatively speaking.

The Silver JZM car is very nice. It looks pretty aggressive with the matte look. I saw pictures of what looked to be the same car on the Romans site a few weeks back. Could it be the same car. Surely not?
Ps this popped up. 212k for a RHD. Surely not genuine!?

would'nt want to be the guy who forked out 300k for one of these when they first arrived,
Yeah. And 212k is offer. Bid much have been say 20k lower. Still a significant amount over list so all parties are happy! That said how the hell are some cars on sale for 275k and others for 212k!What's quite depressing is the low three digit mileages on these cars for sale. Porsches are famed and seemingly bought for their everyday usability compared to their peers in all categories and the RS is no exception especially in 991 guise.

Anyone know what happened to this matte silver 991RS at JZM? Link no longer works, car has vanished from the website and can't see it as being marked as sold. This was likely the car that vanished from the Romans website a couple of weeks before appearing on JZM I think. terryb said:
I think you may be waiting a long time. I'd go for the UV car at JZM whilst they still have it as I doubt there'll be another one as cheap for a very long time - if ever.
It is certainly a good car at a good price. However, there was a RHD car last week with an asking price of 212k and unsurprisingly it sold over the weekend. So prices have already gone lower. The JZM one is still around so if it was that much of an outlier/bargain/off market it would have been snapped up or even sold without advertising.
190k may be a stretch but having tracked these cars and based on responses to this thread it's clear that the price pressure is firmly down (at least currently). And 220k is only c.7-10% lower than the ASKING prices for most other 991RSs currently none of which have shifted. There are also more being delivered all the time.
Last point is pretty much all these cars have zero or negligible miles. Once some start being used (with say 5-10k miles) and subsequently put up for sale we may see lower prices still.

The Octane Collection website shows their Miami Blue car as sold and that was up for 280k. So if it really did sell for anything like that, then prices are all over the place.
They do seem to be. Just saw the Silver RS Romans have had for a couple of weeks has just had a price reduction. I suppose Brexit uncertainty is also not helping. That Miami blue car is just amazing. Wow! Some very lucky person with great taste there.

I have just put a deposit down for the car at JZM.
At that price I felt comfortable. Being delivered on Saturday and I feel like a kid on christmas eve.
Really looking forward to it as I have never driven any type of GT3 before!
Congratulations!! What an absolutely epic car At that price I felt comfortable. Being delivered on Saturday and I feel like a kid on christmas eve.

This makes no sense - 2016 brand spanking new delivery mileage UK car sells for £190k days before Brexit kicked off - Can't see the value here at all
Or 2k more will get you the UV RHD UK car at 911 Sport that went back on sale a couple of weeks ago after being marked as sold. That's a pre Brexit price too. Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
