Does anyone know when the V8d Cayenne got ad-blue? I want a facelift Cayenne (2015>) but after a friend borrowed a 2016 demonstrator the other week it is clear the V8d has lost it's mojo. I rode in a pre-facelift V8d when they first came out (2013?) and it sounded like a V8 petrol - amazing! This latest ad-blue V8 sounds very muted, and more similar to my V6d Cayenne. We thought the V8d demonstrator had something wrong with it but after another PH member noted similar experiences with the V8 I'm wondering if I should buy another V6d, or wait for the 2018 Cayenne. Also, we did some side-by-side races on a private runway and the V8 was only marginally quicker* than my V6d!! With another 140hp the V8 *should* be leaving me for dead! I've always sung my praises on the V8d but I'm now a bit underwhelmed.

  • up to 70/80mph not much in it but after 80 the V8 started to pull away

Last few months I think, I was told there was a big back log of cars due to getting the emissions right, with no V8 delivered for almost 12 months.
After being in a pre add blue last night I'm taking mine back, there's no comparison.
I went in a pre-AdBlue in 2013 and have always wanted one since. I bought a V6d 2yrs ago as it was a good spec at a good price but have always hankered after the V8d. Lately I've been looking with a view to swap my V6 for the V8 but after riding in the AdBlue V8 I'm having second thoughts. I'd be interested to hear what your dealer says

Did 30k miles in 2 x 4.2d pre add blue Cayenne's, now up to 10k in my add blue en. To be honest its lost about 10% of its "grumble" sound, due to the extra cat. MPG is about 5 MPG better over all. Not noticed any less mid range performance.....
It's definitely mid-range and on where the V8 shows it's strength, although not sure it's as quick as the pre-adblue. I have to disagree with only losing 10% of it's 'grumble' - I'd say it's much more. I didn't realise it had gained a cat either

Cars goes in on 30 September, I'll post the outcome.
I've just spent the day in a 2016 Adblue v8d whilst my V6d was in for MOT and warranty renewal. I take back my comments re performance being similar to my V6d - this V8d once moving certainly pulls strong. It had 4k miles on it (also said it was due an Adblue refill in 1500miles) and although I still don't think the sound is quite so V8 rumble as the pre-Adblue, it feels noticeably quicker and more urgent. It didn't have Sportschrono so don't know if it would make it any quicker? MPG was approx 20% less than I normally get from my V6d but to be fair i probably was playing with the bit. All in all I really liked it smile

Did it have the new PCM like the Platinum Edition V6 has?
No, it had the old system. 16 plate though.

Just been lent a 2016 Diesel S whilst mine was in for some work. Ad Blue in the back. Performance noticeably duller than my 2013 car. As with all new cars, the subtle styling and interior updates make the previous model look dated, and the electronics are better. The car felt tighter being brand new, but the big chunk of mid range is missing, of which my car has plenty. Didn't notice any economy difference over a couple of days, and I was wringing it's neck most of the time, but the current facelift Ad-Blue diesel has lost some sparkle from the previous V8 diesel.

Mine's a keeper, 70K miles now. What would I replace it with ?
That is interesting, thank's for feedback. I've just renewed the warranty for 2yrs along with disks and pads on my v6d so will be keeping for a bit longer but really want a v8d. Pre-adblue would be where my budget is so good to know it's the better (?) car smile
