0-60mph relevance???

Can you guys give it to me straight about why 0-60mph is still held is such high esteem when talking up your own car.

An owner of a BMW M4 was telling me today how his car is super fast 0-60.....

Just seems like such an old mindset when you think about how well it would go round a track and how that variable is so loose!

Ive demonstrated that a Cayman 981 was put round the Anglesea Track a second faster that the M4 by the Evo boys. Really thats all that matters. Saying it would be quicker round the streets is a fallacy..... if thats the case the police win!!!!

OK let me caveat it all by saying I am not the most knowledgeable on the subject. And when someone makes a claim I simply look to verify it. So always happy to be educated.
