Porsche owner ...What's the daily drive.....
Discussion
After my bmw diesel died a few months ago I started using my 997.1 as a daily drive, 100miles round trip, did it very well and I do enjoy driving it daily (don't like the salt much) but a month ago decided it was time to get another car, don't like carrying bikes/windsurf in the 911 and it is a pain just popping down the shops in it.
So after lots of looking I really could not convince myself to get another diesel, too boring and I just don't like the engine behaviour and I don't like newer cars... in the end I settled for a not so sensible old audi s3 2001.
It's not the most economical, and it's not the biggest but as a stable mate for a 911 it's spot on, turbo 4 wheel drive, precisely what the 911 is not. I've always thought the original s3 was the turbo break through car just at the point everything fast'ish went turbo.
Just wondering what other cheaper daily cars people use that as still interesting............

I'm with Robbo on this one, if you're into windsurfing then it has to be a van, mega tax efficient as a company car, very useful for shifting crap to the tip (Mrs will like that) and kids love it and the main benefit is that you will drive your Pork more cos vans are, well, vans !
Here is mine, lowered with a Bilstein B4 chassis, silencer delete and of course fully chipped....
This is a pretty swag van, I think you could be on to something here, maybe a could sell it as I won't need to bring the windsurfing gear into the house and dry it all, she loves that, of course I will anyway! And it's probably more economical than the S3 and safer on the licence.....
And to make up for yesterday's trip to Wales for those south easterlies here it is in warmer climes

Got this last year as my daily driver:
GTI Mark 7 Performance Pack
130 mile round trip every day, so far racked up 20k miles in just over 6 months.
It's a great car, quick, really rides and handles brilliantly. Fully loaded, brilliant Satnav, radar controlled cruise control, pano sunroof....
So far, showing 42mpg average which for a 231bhp turbo 2 litre car is amazing.
Love it
I do think that technically speaking this is probably one of the best options, but somehow kind of too new and too fast, I think a good porsche second daily has to be sporty, fun to drive, but is much more about handling than power to allow for a tiny bit of economy, something like those old clio 172/182....GTI Mark 7 Performance Pack

Somehow I think you need at least three, one porsche, one smaller handling machine, and then a van/audi estate for the other stuff/windsurfing....But then what about something for the kids to learn to drive in, Okay so you probably need four as a minimum......

My poor old Cayenne DD is used for dog hauling, towing, winter, offroading and will be replaced by the next gen Cayenne in 2018 ( which will be used for exactly the same thing.)................
I thought they were just for dropping kids of at school, what are you doing getting it dirty !!!I think the different views are all very interesting, I agree not using a porsxhe because you are worried about resale value is a bit silly, like somebody else said on here, you don't have a hot girlfriend and not have sexy with her much to preserve for her next partner.
But then you don't want to wear your Sunday best every day, and the Sunday best is simply not appropriate for some things. Also change is nice whatever the car, and for sure a day or two in another car makes the porsche feel great!
A 100 mile daily I think is slightly too much for a Porsche 5 days a week, it can do it fine, but there are better options and shame to be driving it and not loving it....
