What are the chances that a GT4RS will be launched at Geneva?

Over the past couple of months a few articles have appeared saying that a car is in the pipeline. This along with the Instagram post from Porsche Brisbane a couple of days ago and a few tweets i have seen, make me believe that it is very possible that we will see it launched at Geneva.

A similar marketing strategy was used when the GT4 was launched. Although spy shots of the GT4 appeared in August/Sept 14 and it was a open secret that it was coming, a few months before Geneva, the GT4 appeared on a Porsche website (i don't think it was PGB). It was advertised in the PEC section as one of the cars and then swiftly removed once picked up by the press. A few weeks later a official Porsche video was released of a guy driving a 911 around a garage and driving past a covered GT4.

I don't think it would have been that difficult for Porsche to have built one and kept it a secret.

They also have no need to build up hype around a GT4RS as they know demand would far outstrip supply, so why not do a surprise launch?

I love my GT4 but a 4.0 litre, 430-440bhp, GT4 with improved gearing. Now thats a car i'd keep for a long long time!

It could be a case of the new guy had the password to Porsche Brisbane's Instagram and he thought he'd have some fun and i'm totally wrong, which wouldn't be the first time, but i for one will have my deposit ready to be transferred from now.

Fair enough. I guess i'll have to keep dreaming about one for a bit longer!

Out of interest why could they not build a 981 RS?

The 981 series model is out of production, the factory only produces 718 (982 series) Caymans now. They won't build a 991.1 based 911 again either.

My only wonder is whether Porsche is still producing the GT4 Clubsport, which is 981 based with the 3.8ltr flat six and has PDK. You have the basis of an RS right there...
So there is hope!?

Especially if it is going to be extremely limited.

I would still say it's highly unlikely but if they don't announce it at Geneva or early this year it won't ever be coming as a flat six.

I think given the 718 branding push to moving the Cayster (4-pot) away from the 911 (6-pot) means it won't happen.
Fingers crossed then!

Didn't they release both the GT4 and GT3RS at Geneva at the same time a couple of years back?

If there was a GT4RS coming to Geneva, then it would be based upon modifications to the 981 Clubsport still being built, and would be so damn limited none of us existing GT4 owners would get a look in!
Yes they did launch at the same time.

How limited, a couple of thousand or less?

Nope. Although they may have both been at Geneva. From memory the GT4 was announced in Feb - GT3RS at Geneva.

I think it shows how unexpected the GT4 success was - they didn't think it worthy of Geneva maybe?
Yes you are right it was announced a few weeks before when the Evo video came out, but i think that splitting hairs. I think the first time that most of the worlds press got to get up close was Geneva.

If they did reveal at Geneva, how many do you think they would make?

Would it be limited like the R?

Sat watching the livestream on Tuesday morning convinced that i was going to see a GT4RS and nothing. Gutted.

I'll have to keep dreaming of one for another year
