Has anyone some experience with wheel spacers on a 3.2 Carrera to share with me?

Or to start from the beginning - my 3.2 (1988 sport equipment, not turbo look) has been lowered slightly by a previous owner, with everything else left original. As a result, the wheels, especially at the rear look a bit like they were hiding under the wheel arches, maybe two inches in relative to where the actual wheel arch is (apologies for the poor description rather than a simple photo, but...)

I was wondering whether maybe wheel spacers might help optically. Do they affect driveability or safety? What would the cost for a set of four be, and which ones would you recommend, if any?

Many thanks for help on an admittedly purely cosmetical aspect, but then again...

Thanks burriana, that looks great!! I think i'll go down that route. Does it actually matter what wheel spacers you use, are there any ones particularly recommended?

...on second thought - do wheel spacers actually work when the car is lowered? I don't remember how much lower mine is, but it seems that the outside of the wheel arch is lower than the top of the wheel, if that makes sense...

thanks!
