I had previously noticed a slight knocking sound when turning right and today it has become very prominent and seems to happen when any right hand down is applied to the steering wheel (even on a slight bend in the road)- it varies in frequency but can be like a rapid drumming and is very noticeable from within the car. Previously, when applying full right hand lock, eg pulling out of the drive, it had felt as if the front tyres were skipping slightly or had run over a stone with the asociated slight kick on the steering wheel....

The noise happens at any speed and does not happen at all when turning left, even at full lock.

The car is an 07 plate with 16,000 on the clock.

I have spoken with Porsche Kendal where I bought the car and am taking it in next week to be sorted (hopefully) but wondered if anyone had experienced this or had any thoughts on the problem?

Hi

Thanks for all the feedback, I have booked the car into Porsche Kendal so hopefully it will be recified shortly. I wasn't expecting to have to take the car back so soon....!

Hi phil. Check the wheel bolts are tight and correctly torqued. It is not that uncommon to find some numpty has forgotten to torque them up properly.
Surely that couldn't happen, not with the 111 point Porsche check, 20 points of which are presumably checking the wheel bolts.....

The knocking got worse on a short run yesterday, I checked when I got home and found the locking wheel nut on the rear passenger side wheel had actually fallen out.... Presumably whoever had last taken off the wheel had torqued up the other bolts and then forgotten the locking one, it has probably been finger tight for the last 2000 miles until it finally decided to make a break for freedom.

I checked the bolts on all the other wheels, they were all tight except one on the front drivers side which I could nip up a little. I spoke with Kendal OPC and they expressed surprise at such a happening, I am taking the car in on Monday when they will hopefully pop another locking wheel nut to help avoid a "3 wheels on my wagon" experience....

The good news at least is that the knocking has stopped....
