Sorry there are probably a couple of answers dotted through other threads on this...

My friend is considering a 2006 Cayman S, 36k, and a whole heap of extras. £25k, firstly is that what they go for now or one of the 'too good to be true' cars that fill AT sometimes?

It is not at a Porsche dealer, or even a reputable indy, so I guess the question is... what to look our for?

My first response, and I know nothing about the breed, was to suggest getting one from Porsche with a warranty, or at the very least from a reputable indy, failing that find a very good specialist to inspect before buying.

Is this too cautious, or are they plenty of things to look out for with them that need an expert inspection before buying?

Got to admit I didn't look at the dealer too greatly because he sent a link to the hateful new style auto trader (as much I keep sending him the old link!)... and to be fair I might have done them a dis-service, they look like a reputable outfit from their website...

But does the suggestion of getting a Porsche warrantied car still stand? Is there anything that can be expected to go wrong?

Well, there are all the usual things like brakes (pads and disks), tyres (£295 per rear corner. £255 per front corner)etc, but past that you really need to get the car inspected. Things like checking for RMS leaks, leaky dampers, gearbox issues, etc etc. At 4 years old there is other remedial work that should have been carried out like the drive belt replaced and the brake fluid should have been changed at least twice by now. Gas pressure in the aircon, clutch wear etc etc are all things that should be picked up with an inspection as well. Not to mention of the car has ever been in any kind of bump and had panels replaced.
