Planning on upgrading my CDR24 with something that can do bluetooth and ipod.

Used the very helpful instructions on Planet9 to extract the unit and check the connections.

I have the (orange) fibre optic cables connected to the unit but when I remove them everything appears to carry on working.

I have no BOSE, SatNav, Phone, CD Changer or external amp so I am wondering what the fibre optic ring connects to and hence is there likely to be an issue if I just leave it detached.

I suspect MOST ('scuse the pun) leave this well alone but if there is anyone out there with some experience, please let me know.

Cheers

I discovered that the radio info below the speedo was actually one of the 4 cables in the top block; i.e. not power and not speakers and not the fibre optic, so it probably depends on whether the new unit supports that same functionality

Tino... you may be pre-fibre optic.

For the dash display of the radio station and whether it is MOST or not... well I'll find out real soon when my Kenwood unit turns up.
MOST is a "ring" concept http://www.mostcooperation.com/home/index.html where as ISO is more point-to-point.

The BOSE upgrade in my previous 997.1 had a MOST (fibre optic) interface and with non-BOSE (current Cayman S) I have regular ISO. This is why there are 4 different head units for a car. PCM2.1 BOSE, PCM2.1 nonBOSE, CDR24 BOSE, CDR24 nonBOSE. I cannot vouch for CDR30s.

Installation is probably this weekend so if anyone is interested I'll report back my findings.

All went well.

I needed to bridge the cable on the CAN bus Pin 20 to the RED switched input of the head unit (thanks to Planet-9 articles) and then everything worked EXCEPT (as predicted) the info below the speedo which now just reads - - - -. Fibre optic pair just hanging loose and no dashboard errors.

check this thread for more info and pictures.
