SOS new Tuscan owner today won't engage gear?

Can anyone help my friend- new Tuscan 02 plate driving back from Hexham HC NOW, Sat 30th and stopped for fuel. Car will engage gear with engine off but not with engine on?? He is stuck in Glasgow 5m from home. If you can help can you text/call him on . Thanks in anticipation! Chimaera driver Tim.

Just called him and someone he knows in the trade advised pumping the clutch with the engine on which he did for a minute or so and then the car engaged gear and he has driven home. Maybe clutch stuck or hydraulic issue as car had not had a long journey (130m today from Hexham to Glasgow) He is somewhat relieved and thanks again for responding.
