Back in August I had my dash pod refurbed whilst I was away on holiday as it had numerous issues. Ever since then however my rad fans haven't been working properly? Now this could well be just a coincidence of course as I have no idea how the controls/ECU etc are set up & what signals what!

Before then the first one would Kick in around the low 90's and the second one a few degrees higher, but now it regularly creeps over 100 & still nothing happens. I've had the relays changed, new connectors fitted and the fuses are fine & also proved they work by disconnecting stat(?) when they come on straight away, so assume it has to be an ECU/controls/signalling problem??

Anyone had this before? Could it be related to the dash pod refurb?

Also on a brighter note, 3 years after I bought the car which didn't run, had ruined paintwork & resembled a badly neglected overgrown greenhouse insulated in moss, I am finally able to get it resprayed & I dropped it off to be done yesterday!!

The colour I really wanted was this:

However it turned out I just cannot afford it, so instead I'm going for something along the lines of or somewhere inbetween this:

I'll update photos once it's finished spin

The first one I only know as Chromacoat Blue which is a colour from Specialist Paints in Sheffield, & yes I agree is far from subtle but I figure if you're going to have a loud and shouty car, it may as well be loud and shouty! Also before I ever even dreamed of being able to own a TVR, the image in my head was always of noise and flip paint - I guess that's what comes from being in the Gran Turismo generation??

I watched a Topgear dvd with a P1 in that colour above recently and thought it looked amazing, so if I can get close to that I'll still be very happy despite not being my first choice. The Fiat colour is nice but not quite vibrant enough for me, I want something that really comes to life in the sun. I'm headed for Sheffield tomorrow to make a decision and get it ordered so finger crossed...

As for the fans, the first time it happened was the day I collected it after having the dash done and it overheated sat in traffic. Steam everywhere & no fans at all until I switched the engine off and then switched ignition back on & they kicked in straight away? I had to do this all the way until I made it home. This never happened previously, and bare in mind that it's my daily drive and I've been sat on the M25 with air temp hitting mid 30's and driven it around Europe nudging 40 degrees up and around the Stelvio Pass?!

It hasn't been a huge issue since as it's obviously much colder this time of year, but just to test it out I left it sat running the other day to see what happened and that's when it got to 102 before I switched it off, but this time no fans when I switched the ignition back on? It only ever used to get to one bar over the middle marker on the bottom left of the dash and now it just keeps on rising!

I have pulled the plug under the air box and both fans do come on straight away, and replaced the often corroded connectors on the fans as well as the relays, so now I have taken it to Steve at SD Autotec to check it out. If & when he comes back with a diagnosis I'll be sure to tell you what it was. In the meantime though thanks for your help as usual chaps, much appreciated beer

When my coolant temp sensor failed, it was stuck at 75c, but could only see this when connected to a laptop. The water temp on the dash temp was fine. If yours is also stuck at a similar temp, then the ecu will never think the engine is hot enough to turn the fans on.

Replacement sensor was about £10 (with another £10 postage!) and was easy to swap over.

What made me realise there was a problem was the car not starting when it was hot. I think the incorrect temp was affecting the a/f mixture.
That is exactly what the problem was! When I read this I rang Steve and he told me he had already found it and sorted it out, along with many, MANY other issues that cost me a small ransom banghead
Another common issue I guess? Thanks very much for your help!

I went to choose my colour yesterday and changed my mind once again whistle
As soon as I laid eyes on it I knew it was exactly what I was after and it's called purple illusion. Hard to tell in some lights if it's purple or blue, and it really comes to life in the sun! I'm chuffed to bits now and really cannot wait until it's done. Looking at this little lot, it's in good hands too...

Can't get much worse...

I bet you can't wait! Will you at burghley house with it? We'll be there if we can sort the clutch issues...
Well I've rushed it in now in the hope it will be done for then! Another was meant to be doing it for cheap but has been putting me off for 3 months! So I thought enough is enough & I bit the bullet & paid the extra for Chris to do it! So here's hoping.

What's your clutch issue?? I'll be going either way so see you there all being well!

From one sprayer about another, your car is in good hands with Chris, Top Man.
Praise indeed from an ex factory man! I've seen some of his work and it looks amazing, I wanted him to do it in the first place but I run this car on the tightest budget known to man - just ask Steve at SD Autotec... rotate Hence why I was going down the 'guvvy' route.

Are you one of the guys responsible for the hidden graffiti in the cars that I've seen in a thread on here?? I hope they find some in mine! yes

Nice! What a lovely colour! Do you know when it will be done?
Cool ahy, just can't wait to see it on the car! I've asked for it to be finished for Burghley - 12th April - but he said he can't promise anything but he'll try his best.

Hi Martin,

I've not seen any pictures or anything as yet & I keep thinking about the colour choice and if I chose the right one, but then I look back at the video I took & think yes! It is pretty loud in certain lights but varies quite a lot - it appears royal blue in darker areas. Also I got a call today asking for me to order another 5 litres! So when thinned out it works out about 16 litres of paint?! eek

What were you doing up there, with the Sag? I'm told they are trying to get it finished by the end of this week, so not only should I make Burghley, but Malton as well. Possibly even the cobweb run!

Cheers

I asked about shadow chrome & anthracite wheels on the FB TVR selling page as I wanted to go a little darker, but the general opinion was to keep them bright! I'm going to see how I feel about it when i get it back, but my wheels are desperate for a refurb anyway so if anyone has any at a reasonable price I may be persuaded...ears

Just seen it, that does look well! Not many people want to part with them though by all accounts & I can't afford a new set. Although now that you wrote that last post my car came up in the pictures! laugh

No originally it was Toyota plumb purple, but someone painted it in this rubbish at some stage, presumably with a roller judging from the state of it! I think it was meant to be a form of Reflex purple...

But God knows where the paint came from, it's crap I know that much!

Thanks very much! Although looking at it in person I discussed with Steve (SD Autotec) and we came to the conclusion the wheels are better staying lighter. Can't afford a refurb just yet though so there's plenty of time to ponder on it!
