Advise please - oil top up

Have recently bought a tuscan, which has not long had a 6k service

No idea what oil the dealership would have used. What would recommended to used to top up?

Does it matter if he oil from the service is 5w and topped up with 10w or vice versa, I.e can they blend as I don't know what was put in it?

Found out from the dealership it's using valvoline vr1 20w / 50 so very glad I didn't put in a 5/40 or 10/40 hoping it was the right one

That said having got the engine warm, turned it off to take a reading but couldn't see any thing on the stick, does the engine need to be running to take the reading? Apologies, new paranoid owner not wanting to do anything wrong!

It's a w reg. has just come out of a 6k service in the last 500 miles or so and has had a rebuilt at power

I hoping its user inexperience rather than car

Also there is no minimum line, just a hand scratched on max!
