- so on top of the 50% rise last time, it's 33.3% this year and a further 25% increase next year...

- makes you proud to be British!!

I shall be using the 'hell-crossing' again this weekend, so I'm getting my rant off my chest now -

1) The crossing is debt free - the tolls are just a tax on travelling

2) As any fool do kno, TOLLS SLOW DOWN TRAFFIC, which is bad for the economy and the environment

3) This charade is a poor advertisement for UK PLC - all those foreign visitors kept in queues so they can admire the beauty of Thurrrock or Dartford

4) Scrap the toll booths but put average speed cameras in place to control the flow

A simple pricing solution would be to offer electronic tags to all UK registered vehicles at MOT centres for a niminal one off fee. The tag then becomes a visible indicator of an MOT, and can be used for numerous access points accross the UK and is recoded at each MOT annniversary.

All non tagged vehicles pay a fee to use the crossing.
Liking your thinking, but it's too straightforward and fair ever to become law in the UK.

My Grandfather used to espouse the view that the tax disc should entitle the 'holder' (private motorist named on the V5) to free transport on public transport. That would lessen traffic. And the motorist probably contributes more than enough already to keep it running.
