NIO ET7 - Tesla better watch out...

So we all remember the NIO EP9 which was a pretty savage beast (and also one of the best sounding BEVs to date):-





Well, it appears NIO have not rested on their laurels and have brought out their own 644bhp 'Model S' killer called the ET7:-









A little different from the competition in that, like the EP9, the entire battery pack can be swapped out rather than having to wait to recharge the whole thing (although how that kind of infrastructure would work remains to be seen) as well as Level 4 autonomous driving built in even if it's not available to use legally yet. Three battery sizes (75/100/150 kWh) are offered, with up to 1000km/620miles potentially available from the largest 150kWh battery pack. 0-60 comes in around 3.8 sec so it's fast enough and the base price starts around €56k; whether or not it will make it to the UK remains to be seen but as a value proposition, it's pretty hard to sniff at...

Yeah - I think everyone else is gonna have to step their game up.

There are no prices for the 150kW battery because it will be a solid state, not Li-ion, pack - expect the price difference between the 150kW and 100kW models to be pretty substantial - at present, the 100kW model goes for around €70k

That being said, NIO are also allowing owners to lease battery packs rather than paying for them upfront with the car purchase - the 75kW battery pack leases for around €130 p/m and the 100kW pack for around €187 p/m.

Doing it this way, the purchase price of the ET7 (sans battery) drops to around €55k.
