air ducting/cooling temps
Discussion
dont know if this has been covered before but guess im not the first to ask.
one thing ive noticed (big downside with these cars) is the under bonnet temps and temps which get transferred back into cockpit on a run.
now it seems to me that a lot of this is caused through hot air not being able to escape under the bonnet due to lack of venting (especially when fans kick in) as the hot air simply gets pushed back towards the engine and transmission tunnel.
now ive noticed on a lot of these type of cars such as the ultima gtr to name but a few (pulsar gtir another) that they all have venting in place to allow the hot air to escape.
surely this can only be a good thing as it would lower intake temps and allow cooling to be much more efficient on a long hot run (or on track)
which brings me to my main point, im thinking of designing something similar to the ultima bonnet vent for a cerb (well mine specifically)
has anyone got any photos of something similar being done before?
and your opinions whether they be good or bad?
ideally i would like to get another bonnet to try this on rather than butcher mine so if anyones got a spare bonnet kicking about they wanna flog to me i may well be interested

sorry but i dont like that its far to in your face!
love the car though and a lovely colour
need to do something more subtle just to allow the hot air out
something similar to this
just above the fans so not letting any rain water drip on all the electrics yet will allow the heat to dissipate quickly

yeah if he had placed the rear two vents away from where coil packs sit then it would have been ok i guess.
il take a look at scottys thing a little later
was gonna use pulsar bonnet side vents just above manifolds to let heat out there
what ya reckon? dont think they will look too conspicuous on a cerb

tbh ive not measured under bonnet temps yet but i would imagine them to be quite extreme!
after a good spirited run the intakes to the manifold are very hot but then i guess they would be seeing as there sitting right over the ex manifolds.
its just the heat from the drivetrain tunnel and cockpit seems a bit extreme to me and i would have thought its only gonna get worse on a trackday or similar
i was even considering running another kenlowe fan on underside of bonnet but all thats gonna do is circulate the already hot air
gerriad....yes i dont think those style vents would look out of place on the cerb strategically placed above the manifolds and blended in (plus ive got a few of them which saves me hunting for them)
think il be doing that and a scoop similar to the ones on the ultima
all i need now is another bonnet to butcher so if anyones got one they wanna flog me then give us a shout, doesnt matter if theres a few dinks and marks on it

cheers for that scotty, i gotta say i do like the look of that one best, it looks much better from the front than from side angle.
if you would be good enough to get those under bonnet temps for me then that would be much appreciated, il do the same with mine as is and we can compare the results.
as you say....with rain etc thats not gonna affect anything as its out the way of all the main electrical components but it will let all that hot air out easily when the fans kick in.
as tanguero said, 'i may be trying to fix a prob that doesnt exist' but anything that keeps those charge temps down and engine cooler surely can only be a good thing, so we wont know untill a few tests are carried out.
the only thing i dont wanna do is chop up my good bonnet because should i ever sell the car it would be good to give the buyer the option of either stock or modified bonnet.
gerrad....cant see any pics from those zertec bonnets, think the threads to old

thanks guys
yep thats one hell of a nice cerb there
the vent looks very similar to scottys but i would rather make one myself if i can get a ropey bonnet off someone.
if not then whos the plasticman guy as il get a price on a pre-made one but im guessing there gonna be a fair few quid to have made up
