This has been an intermittent problem for the past 2 years probably. Where I'd stop (could be either hot or cold) then may have to sit there for a minute or so pushing the start button before it would fire up. It always would eventually but now i cant get it firing at all.

This afternoon - i removed the battery which appears to be taking a good charge and cleaned up the terminals and silver greased them up. They were pretty dirty so gleaming now. Still wouldn't start - i then used a battery booster pack - still wouldn't start - I also tried linking the negative to another negative on the chassis in case the main negative connection was dirty - again it never started.

It has the starting relay in the passenger foot well. This was changed out a couple of years ago but again it never really did anything to this intermittent problem.

The 100amp fuse is also fine. I now fear its the immobiliser ECU from looking at previous posts.

When going to start the car im getting the fuel pump priming first push and the starter motor solenoid pulling in but engine just wont turn.

If anyone has any advise for possible problems or other fixes i could try would be great.

How am i best to gain access to the starter signal wire? Just squeeze in through the top and into the transmission tunnel? My car is currently on my drive way so i dont have access via my pit unfortunately frown

Okay this all sounds good thanks - i can picture all the things in my mind from previous starter replacement - shame my hands are so big lol. I will probably remove the fuel rails to assist. I though that the additional relay in the passenger foot well was a slave relay for the starter circuit? I this does fire up is it almost certain to be the alarm immobiliser relay.....if so would you be able to direct me in a method of sorting this issue?

As long as i can grab the connector block i should be fine. Can picture it in my head. When i push the start button i can hear the starter solenoid pull in but just doesn't crank over.

I'm gonna need to sort out some suitable cable for this. 2.5mm should do it though i would guess?

Been reading into this most for the past hour or so and getting my plan of attack sorted. Its sounding more and more like its my immobiliser ECU. If this is the case - is it still Carl Baker that everyone uses for these type of repairs? If it is and someone has Carls contact details could you post here or PM me these details please.
