Indicators

Hello

I drove into work today and my indicators stopped working.

So I parked, got on with my day and at lunchtime checked the fuse.

It was fine, so I turned on the ignition and hey presto, the indicators were working again.

I’m a little concerned because the indicators and the brake lights are on the same fuse/circuit.

Has anyone come across this before?

I’d be interested in understanding why it happens.

Cool, thanks for that. I do have a spare flasher relay but the thing is, when the indicators wouldn't work, the hazards did?!
I think the indicators and hazards are on the same relay... Hmm

Indicators and hazards are on separate circuits, the hazard/alarm indicator flash overrides the normal indicator circuit, so the hazards will work when the indicators won't.

Thanks Peter - but there is only one flasher relay (from the diagrams http://www.thetvrsite.com/files/wiring-diagrams/fu...http://www.thetvrsite.com/files/wiring-diagrams/fu... So, if the flasher relay is shared, and in my case the indicators failed but the hazards were fine, then I guess my problem might be the indicator stalk?

It's the steering column ribbon cable I think.. When I turn tightly the wipers come on. Not all of the time though.
I must have a loose connection.
I remember that inside the centre of the steering wheel there is a set of individually hand marked connectors. They must be loose. As the horn is intermittent as well.
Still doesn't explain the indicators though...

I had that problem too, caused by one of the wires from the button on the steering wheel to the connector rubbing against the wheel boss, wearing through the plastic sheath and eventually shorting out against the metal boss - but only on left handers!
