Rear AP brakes
Discussion
hmm. I think the pin is in the later calliper.
Having some problems tracking down a rattle from the rear wheel of the car. It disappears on braking
Have taken the disc off to check handbrake shoes......no problem
Have messed with the CV joints ....no problem
now have found that the bake pad is copper and the hole that the split pins goes through on the brake pad has become elongated, enough to allow the brake pad to touch either side of the calliper and wondered if that's the rattle.
I could drill the copper brake pad and put a steel ferrule in but I'm still not convinced its the problem. £30 would get me a set of old steel brake pads to try in?

Yep but didn't have the problem prior to the new pads with a backing plate made of what looks like copper. The copper is far more likely to wear compared with steel. They didn't rattle when I first put them it, it developed over about a 1000 mile of use. Now th eholes i nthe copper backing plate look like ovals and the pad is capable of hitting each side which wasn't the case before. I can't have that sound interferring with my enjoyment of the car.
I think the three remedies to this are
1) Don't buy pads with a copper backplate
2) make a stell ferrule to go in the copper backplates
3) dril the calipers to accept a steel pin rather than a splitpin.

Interesting you should mention it, I thought about a T350 at one point as the only other TVR I liked the styling on. Matched with a TVR power engine it must be quite some beast.
As for me, ticking on. I reluctantly got rid of the M5, Never liked the E60, so looked at the new M5 but just didn't gel with the idea of not much more real world performance for the money paid out.
So convinced the wife the 335xd was the sensible option so I can sneakily save up for a gallardo in the next few years. At least thats the current masterplan. waiting for the LP560 to become affordable

The springs are already on there, where do I get the anti rattle pads.
More interesting why have I never had this noise before?
I don't mean the poxy biro springs that fit round the split pin I mean these. http://www.powersperformance.co.uk/store/slug/anti...More interesting why have I never had this noise before?
