Thought Id say hello .
So " hello "

I own a VW and Porsche Restoration shop in Wiltshire and have like most car people got too many projects and not enough drivers .
Recently I was offered a silly amount of money for a rusty old split screen bus which if I'm honest I was never going to get around to doing and was happy to sell if a buyer came along .
I had been looking for another car I can use on nicer days , had to be 4 seats . I was looking at 996 Porsches but I couldn't get past the IMS issue and that worried me a lot . Whilst looking on eBay I often keep an eye on TVR's as Ive always liked them and as a sale looked closer I started to look a bit closer .

As a result I have done everything wrong when buying a car - Only looked at 1 and purchased it .
I made an offer that makes it the cheapest one advertised in the UK and was happy to take a risk . Chassis looks ok and everything works ( for now )

Its a 2000 speed six - Tuscan front end and I can't stop smiling .
There are a few bits that need sorting out but that is just silly tidying up which I enjoy .

So far I've done just over 100 miles and its still all working - I intend to use it fairly often and will no doubt be in need of help and assistance as I go on .

Cheers Jon

Interesting - I found it for sale in Leicestershire for 16k + but that was a year ago, whilst looking at pictures on Google
It was put to Brooklands historic for sale by auction and did not sell .
The owner agreed to help them sell - I looked at it and put an offer a week or so later of what I was happy to pay . which was 12K

Ive been through it a bit over the last few days and done a few miles , Chassis is good which was my main concern and it looks lovely . Still not made up my mind about the wheels as I would prefer spiders TBH . But hey ho , it was a negotiation point ...

All good so far except I seem to have developed a rattle under the bonnet - I will take off the covers and have a listen - Sounds like its from the front of the engine though , under the rocker .....

Im sure questions will follow .

Is the rattle engine speed related?

Is there any mention of an engine rebuilt in the history and if so who did it?
It has had an engine rebuild - to red rose spec . Cant remember who did it but I have receipt .
The noise seems to be coming from the cam cover - at this moment I'm suspecting cam tensioners .
I will take covers off and have a little look soon - I was then thinking of sending it up for a 12000 jobbie in Redditch at a company recommended to me .
That will get it all running right and they can have a look at the cam tensioners - Hopefully its obvious whats wrong when I take covers off - IE loose tensioner etc not metal bits in there :-0
The noise is not speed related - It doesn't do it at idle and when you raise revs to over 1000 it starts and disappears almost as soon as you pull away .

The Engine was rebuilt by TVR Power - I've found the receipt .

Very good news. Did this rebuild have one of the long warranties Power were offering?
Ive got all the receipts as I wanted to check out what was involved - Didn't see any mention of warranty .

Ive found the source of my noise .

Cam chain was not tight enough and was hitting the cover .

A bit of time and now its sorted and I'm very happy .

I have booked the car in for a 12000 mile service next Friday as I would like the peace of mind of having tappets done and also getting the throttles all set up right .

Also started sorting a few bits to make the car more presentable - One of my pet hates is bad condition number plates so those have been changed - Ive also managed to get a few bits of interior trim stuck back down correctly .
Next job is a new front window and that should be done this week at some time ...

Cheers Jon

I am now nearly 400 miles into TVR ownership and so far am loving it .

I sorted the noise under the cam cover as it was a loose tensioner and that is all fine .

I drove to CWR in Redditch on Friday to drop it off for a 12,000 mile service , which I think it is due .
I have been very impressed with the whole team up there and was filled with confidence when I dropped it off .

It was also the first time I have seen it on a ramp as mine have been full with customer cars - I was delighted to find nearly new GAZ coilovers and no corrosion on the chassis - and I do mean NON - so I am a happy bunny .
Nick is going to do a full report for me on the car as part of the service and I can then start working through it when it comes back .

Really looking forward to driving it home with all the throttle bodies set up properly etc .

Hopefully I will get it back on Wednesday or thursday

until then ....

I've had people nearly walk into lamp posts checking mine out! Sadly I missed it, but my missus was behind me so she got to witness it!
I haven't had that in the Cerebra but in my VW fastback I have had someone ride into a bollard whilst looking at the car giving me the thumbs up .
I would have checked he was ok but i was crying with laughter and didn't want to add insult to injury

The main response I get in the Cerbera is idiots wanting a race - Normally kids in Corsa's .

Just had the car back from CSW in Redditch - Its like a new vehicle - Amazing
Turns out a few things had been done in the past to get MOTs etc - the main one being the cats which had been bodged by welding some very small cats from another car in the tubes and they had blocked / collapsed when they were fitted - New cats sorted that - also the lambda sensors were on the wrong exhaust .
All sorted and very happy , although my pockets are a bit lighter now than they were last week ;-)

Cant recommend Nick enough , very thorough and knows his stuff ..

Only problem now is I seem to have lost the instrument back lights , I will have a look on the net , but if anyone has any idea please chime in .

Cheers Jon

Love the fastback. A mate back in the day had a rover v8 powered one with huge Quattro style arches and painted silk black. Massive tyres. Felt so rapid at the time. Poor beetle gearboxes didn't like it though!
Mine has a 1900 Porsche 914 engine in it , but its not tuned up too much . VW transsexuals do not like too much power thats for sure .

Back onto Tvr things

I am now 1300 miles into Cerbera Ownership and am finally really beginning to love the thing .

It now runs like a dream thanks to Nick at David Gerald - ( now Classic World Racing )

I have fitted a new throttle cable which was fun being a reasonably big unit myself

I am pretty much using it as a daily and went to Goodwood last weekend in it which is a 2 hr drive via Worthing and all was good .

The cats were causing some of the issues and I replaced them with a good second hand set but have decided to keep those for MOT time and am now running the old cat housings with the cat removed - which makes it pop and bang a fair bit .

Now its all running OK the only things I have to sort is the lighting issue which I have narrowed down to one of the siemens relays in the lighting unit - In the mean time I've set the rear lights up off the fog light switch . I also want to change the wheels for a set of 18 inch spiders . Hola if anyone fancies a swap ....

Then is a rolling restoration - I want to tidy up the heat shield under the bonnet and around the battery cables etc - start to detail all the chassis , which has no corrosion but I want to keep it that way .
