Was running brilliantly but then the Cerb started dropping to 7 cylinders/missing on the way to work Fri, same on the way home, but got worse.. Was fine when first started, and cleared briefly a few times. Pulled lead/coil connectors, tried it again this morning and it was fine for the first few mins..

Left it parked up came to move it and it died, realised I'd run it out of fuel (yes whoops!) Brimmed it and it was running a tiny bit better, it would take some throttle.. Although it was popping and banging out of character. Now parked up at home went to drive it and it won't start, just spinning over, give it some throttle and it splutters into very rough life but you get smoke from the top of the engine which stinks of fuel, but basically won't run.

I'd initially thought plugs/leads/coils (cheap enough to throw at it, and it is probably due them tbh), due to missing under load. Now I'm a little concerned it may be a bit more involved due to the fuel flavoured smoke..

So do I Aide.. I have plugs, leads and coils ready to go on this weekend. No signs of anything untoward yet, removing the rest of the plugs should tell a story.

I'm hoping not?!!

Do the cheap ones work as well as the more expensive testers? I've not got one atm..

I have same problems, and I'm doing the same parts, will compare notes later then! My ECU was giving no faults apart from AFR on all cylinders, which points in all directions. Mines due coils, so starting with ignition, then balancing TPots and hopefully that just leaves the lambdas. You really do need the software to check and set up things properly.
Interesting to see if it is the same issue!

I'm down near Colchester, so probably a bit far! Cheers for the offer though! Appreciated!

Thanks! We shall see.. Unfortunately doesn't look like the coilpacks will be here in time (ordered Tuesday!), but I can do the compression test/plugs/leads this weekend.. After I have fixed the other half's Mini of course, she isn't too happy about having to bike/walk everywhere!

Racetech deliver next day and txt the time of delivery, or you can specify a safe place or neighbour
Yeah, had excellent service off them for the new leads.. However they want £120 for a coil pack.. I paid £43 (for Bosch ones!) Just didn't expect it to take so long to get here.

Well.. It is running even-ish compression across all 8 cylinders.

Coilpacks didn't turn up, so changed leads and plugs. Rear drivers cylinder lead was shorting on the exhaust manifold and heat damaged and breaking up.

Still won't run properly, but "running" much better than it was.. Fuel filter and coilpacks to go. It is running colder to touch on No.3 cylinder on the driver's bank. Going to get diagnostics on it as well next weekend.

I found changing the plugs and leads quite easy really.. Even with the ACT Manifolds.. laughbiggrin

I strongly recommend routing the HT leads between the water rails and the heads (rather than over the water rails). If you are using bog standard leads you can feed them between the rails/heads without removing the water rails.
Out of interest why between? Chaffing/heat? They are currently routed back as they were found.

Ah.. Wait. That is how mine are routed, that lead was unplugged. It burnt out on the manifold as they were too long/poor fit.

Turns out it was the fuel filter from where I ran it out of fuel.. Just replaced it and we are back on 8 and idling.
