Set off from traffic lights, quite a brisk pace, clunk and no drive to rear wheels. Engine is spot on, no leaks or smoke. I've a sinking feeling it's gonna be expensive. Any ideas?

Any rough estimates on cost. Getting it dropped off at x works in morning if he'll have it.

All fixed now, done it myself. I've even got one spare for next time it happens. There was no need to do the test, it had completely snapped just before it bolts to the diff. Cheers for the advice everyone.

Does anyone know if driveshafts breaking is a common fault. I'm a bit worried about giving it some stick now. Luckily it's a quick and simple job to do and I've got a spare. I broke it in 2nd and not immediately when setting off.
