Can anyone advise the best place to obtain the later (smaller) headlight units from?

Thanks

eBay is usually a good bet for the Hella projector lenses.

Do you have the fiberglass surrounds for the conversion? I have a pair knocking about in my garage that I now won't use....
Thanks for this. The pods have been installed, so I'm just trying to work out the units which are to be installed.

So do both upper and lower lights have main beam and dipped beam? And does one of each pair have a side light?

This is the style with the sidelight built into the main beam.
Dipped beam is the projector. Better pic in my profile on how the lights look
On the car. Converted in 2001 by the paperwork!
Thanks for this, everything is now a lot clearer.

The only decision now is whether to go HID?

Factory cars came with a separate sidelight.
I had hid for a while but got sick of being flashed by other road users (although I have since dropped the front and heightened the rear which might help).
I also hated the dipped being a white light but full beam being yellow.
Glad you mentioned the separate sIdelight arrangement, I've just checked some photos and my conversion has it (car is away being restored). So now I need to find a source of these mini sidelights.

So thinking about this, if you have the separate mini-sidelight, can you therefore have a pair of bi-halogen (dippable main beams) on each wing?

They are H7 so...no. (H7 are not dip/main dual, they are simple, single-filament bulbs)
These are H9

They expressly state high and low beam in one unit?

I have somehow managed to have three side lights per side as I have separate sidelights, sidelight in the high beam units and also dim dip on the dipped units.

You could also consider LED main and dipped units as both are available as CE marked units but they are rather expensive at present (about £250 each). You can also get LED H7 bulbs as bright or brighter than halogens for reasonable money but they aren't strictly legal and I am not sure the beam pattern would be good.

Whilst you could fit a pair of dipped/main units to each side that would be against the construction and use regulations (only one pair of dipped beans allowed) so you might get failed at MoT time.
That's worth knowing, thanks. I think I'm going to try it in increments. I'll install the halogen units and then maybe try some LED H7 bulbs. £1,000 for a complete set of proprietary LED headlamps wasn't in my refurbishment budget, which is now beginning to make me squeak a bit
