Hi,

I got a Cerbera 4.2 and I would like to get a bit more power. What option do I have, who can do it (not many TVR tuners left i guess) and how much does it cost?

Hope you can help.

/ Tom

Thanks, for your feedback. You are right the engine may have lost some of the original "puff" which could be regained as suggested. How much power would you think I could gain by following your suggestion and where to buy? I'm looking for something in addition to the original 360BHP. More in line of +450BHP.

Yeah that isn't going to happen from a 4.2. The original was a claimed 350bhp, mine used to be 341-343bhp depending on etster.

Mines probably the best 4.2 out there with everything done as suggested above, except its got the ACT quiet exhaust system, I could possibly release a few more horse with a 3" bore system but I like it quieter.

So mine has 380bhp, BUT and the big but, why more power? Pub talk?
Mine does 0-60 in 4 secs, has pulled a standing start to a mile in 31 secs and has traveled at close to 190mph. Thats pretty fast and just adding another 20-40 bhp doesn't make it faster, it's fractions at this point and all comes down to the driver reaction time (as seen at fighting torque).

Weight? Some of the cars (and drivers) are heavy. The front seats weigh a lot, perhaps a weight loss program. There's not much to go on though.

Other than that it's engine change time and thats big bucks. Anyone got a graph of a 4.7 at Surrey Rolling road? I think the old shootouts we had there the good, sorted 4.5's made just over 420bhp.

Thats why some have gone the LS engine route
Thanks for this reply. Your are so right and your reply make so much sense bow

........but my brain go "ohhhh no" and don't take it in. I'm a Pistonhead and proud of it rolleyes

Of cause more power is better (we all know) and you also went through alot to get 20-40BHP smile

The question is which is better the path to get increased power. Would it make more sense to go 4.2 -> 4.5 (maybe Red Rose) or is it the way you went which is the best.

If you could do it all again would you go for more engine volume?

Are anyone doing Red Rose anymore and how far would that get you?

Dare I say it being an S6 owner but for the Power gain you would like it does seem that a rebuild would be the way to go, especially if its lost original "puff" that could spell a bigger problem. The 4.2 to 4.5 seems like a common one for Powers Performance but there is also the 4.7 (others know much more than me).

If cost and 'engine' brand is not a problem to you then an LS3 may be your choice as it will get you close if not the full 450bhp upon standard installation.
This could have been a great solution but, I need to a pre-1997 engine due to taxes (don't ask. This is just one of the things you have to accept when living in a car hostile country). Actually this is the reason why I did not buy a 4.5 to begin with.

You may find your 4.2 has a 4.5 bottom end as many of the cars were made that way... so you effectively have a 4.5 with 4.2 induction?

Dom at Powers performance would be my go to guy as a 4.5RR update should/could see 450bhp wink
How can I see if the bottom is a 4.5?

You can't fault Paul's superb fabrication, but since the AJP8 is SOHC that means you can't easily change the overlap so that is it more appropriate for forced induction.
Is there another string on Paul's project or do anyone have a link?

Is it based on a 4.2?

Not being an ajp expert I know the cc is stamped on the block. Not sure where so maybe one of the more knowledgeable here can Shen more light on it.
Do any of you know where the stamp is placed or how to identify a 4.5 bottom?
