Having sold the Griff I was intending to wait until next spring the buy a replacement (which is likely to be a Cerbera). However, I'm missing the TVR more than I expected so have started to look around for a good car. However, having looked through the classifieds I'm surprised by the price differences for apparently similar cars.

So, the question is, do upgrades add to the value of the car, and if so, by how much?

i.e if a <99 car had the following, how much value would be added over a standard car?

- Engine Rebuild
- 4.5 over 4.2
- 18" spiders
- Headlight conversion
- New Clutch
- Low miles
- Brake upgrade

I know it's subjective, but I don't think most of the above would add to the resale value, am I wrong?

That's a difficult one, especially as people will immediately ask why (I followed the thread a while ago). Having said that, I personally would prefer a later spec car (you're not selling yours are you?), but I suppose others would be put off by the history. In my original post I was referring to a car that had never been damaged, just upgraded (though you raise an interesting point with your car!).
The '97 cars in the classifieds range from 16-23k which is a massive difference. I'd personally value yours a bit higher than the 19k you quoted but wouldn't go as far as some in the classifieds (25k for a similar spec!)

I saw that one in the classifieds a while ago, and at the advertised price it was a good buy - you did well getting money off! So, to add to my initial question:

when buying TVR's do most people pay the advertised price. I did with the Griff, and the guy who bought it from me did. However, when I spoke to a couple of dealers they seemed to think that was far from ordinary.

James,

Sorry - I've read my post and I really didn't make myself clear at all! I was pretty sure that the majority of dealers don't move much on price.
However, I spoke to dealers about trading my Griff in (for a Tuscan at the time), and when I queried their low part-ex offers the usual response was 'you might see them advertised privately at x'000 more but private sellers always drop considerably on price'.
Whether that's true or not, I don't know. Nice to know that you may (if I pick the right one) negotiate slightly on your stock though James ;-)

J_S_G - just ran downstairs to hear a comment about the 'girls liking it' (silver t350) then straight onto the budget new cars!! I really hope I haven't missed it!

Surely I'm missing something, but how have you ended up with a post-2002 chassis?

Yep, you have missed something. It's a shame the same cannot be said about the vehicle that front ended Bandits car and caused 31k damage!
