How did you decide what supercar to purchase?

I've been looking for sometime at purchasing a supercar. I was originally looking at a McLaren 12C or something else in that bracket. I've since changed my mind because it's personally too flashy for me. Now I'm looking at maybe an R8 or a 911, but I find it impossible to choose. It's hard to think that I'll just hand over all that money (paying in cash) and can't go back to change my mind. So, how did you guys end up picking the car you did? Because ever time I compare two cars I find that they both have qualities that I want and don't want and basically equalize themselves out.

Also, is the R8 or 911, in your opinion, more practical for every day use?

Lots of good advice here. The only one I've test driven so far was the 911 turbo. Lots of fun but I didn't really fall in love with it. The R8 certainly isn't my first pick, but I just feel like the attention would be overwhelming with a 12c or gallardo. I'll probably test drive them both anyways, and possibly the 458 as well to see if I "fall in love" with any of them.

For any of you 12c, 458, or gallardo owners: how much attention do you grab as you drive? Does someone try to talk to you ever time you get out of your car in public?

Unlike you I want something that's wow to look at as well as drive, the beauty and theatrics of a supercar make it what it is imo.

Oh I agree that beauty is a large consideration. I'm just a really shy person and don't like attention, yet I still want that "wow" factor (except I want it to be just for me...argh so frustrating!!!).
