After some years of Porsche ownership as a daily driver, I find myself in the position of not wanting a 991. I feel that they are too lacking in soul, feel detached and a little false and contrived. So I'm looking for something else. I've just given an R8 V10 Plus demo car back that I had on an extended test drive and did nearly 600 miles in it. My question to R8 owners is this: does the V8 car feel any different to the one I drove. Obviously it'll be slower , so don't tell me that! The one I drove was flappy Paddle, passive shocks and ceramics. Would a manual V8 on steels 'feel' any different?

Thank you for the input so far. Interesting to hear one of you say that you found the ceramics grabby, I did too. On a gentle application the brakes seemed to retard the car at say 5/10 but after a second ish , with no increase in my pressure on the pedal, the deceleration would increase to say 7/10, which was often more than I wanted. I thus found it difficult to brake smoothly and to modulate the brake effort in the way I wanted. Hence my question, are the steels any more linear? I've got ceramics on a Porsche and they are much easier to use than the ones on the v10 plus I drove. However I really liked the suspension on the plus, but am I right in thinking you can't get one without the other? I too thought the car felt heavy, does the v8 feel lighter in it's toes, more 'chuckable' ?
Why does the v8 list at 100 kilos less than the v10 ?
How come the plus is nearly back down to the weight if the v8 ?

My OPC offered me an early slot for a GT4 but I refused as I'm expecting it to be active suspension, flappy paddle, piped in synthetic engine noise and overly long gearing. I'm looking at the R8 and trying to learn a little about them because it appears to me that the R8 was once the 'new kid on the block' but might now be the last of the (nearly) analogue sports cars!! I might be able to buy an R8 with a decent manual 'box, feelsome steering, honest suspension and a certain amount of honesty. All reasons why I haven't bought a 991, despite owning several Porsches. I just need to get my head round the weight issue. . .
