Impulse buy, Gran Turismo
Discussion
Had some spare time Monday so was flicking through PH. Saw a mention of a Maserati Gran Turismo. Had a browse of the classified as you do, just being nosey. Bought one today. Would have bought it yesterday but the dealer didn't get it until late afternoon. Had no intention or inclination of even looking for a new car Monday morning, let alone buying one.
Pick it up in two weeks.
I don't tend to mess about but that was pretty quick off the mark, even for me! Now counting the days down until we can collect.

It's a 4.7 GTS auto. Rosso Mondiale with Nero interior. Bose, Comfort Pack, all four carbon packs, Trident Mercury wheels, single rate suspension.
It's exactly what I'd spec bar the red stitching on the centre of the seats. Amazing find as I went to the dealer with an enquiry about a new one they had in stock and it just happens that they were collecting this one on Tuesday.
No recent pics as its so new to them but this is it from a previous sale:
Test drive was fun. It's a big car. Very weighted steering, goes reasonably well and sounds amazing on full chat. Lots of room in the back (relatively speaking), well put together interior and it looks fabulous (darling). Getting very excited, can't wait to get to know it better

I looked into the MC vs auto discussion and came to the conclusion that auto would be better for me but that I could live with MC if needs be as the majority of cars have the automated manual box so holding out for auto would seriously limit the number of cars available for consideration. We had a Continental GT Speed and I used to prefer driving our old S Type Jag with slush box round town, I like a lazy drive when in traffic.
However, as luck would have it this particular car has all the benefits of the MC spec but with auto box. Result
Will be planning a number of continental road trips this year. Ive no plans to use the GT on track but it will be a jolly good fun way of getting to Spa, Nurburgring etc and then hire a suitable track car when we get there

Very nice, I think they look great in red, I very nearly bought a red one but it was sold the day I went to view it and I ended up with a black one which also looks great.
I love mine and I hope you get loads of enjoyment from yours
Wasn't this one you missed was it?I love mine and I hope you get loads of enjoyment from yours

I phoned about that one but it had sold
Red and white are my favourite colours. Black looks great too though. To be honest they look fantastic in any colour

So on your car if you press SPORT does it make the exhaust louder or does the loudness only kick in at around 3000RPM?
It's only louder after 3k rpm. I find myself trying to drive everywhere at 3001rpm!I haven't tried it with the lever knocked over to manual.

On a side note a gentleman on the Maserati forum had his MC remapped with before and after power runs and his standard car ran 470bhp before being tuned. 505bhp after. That was on a DynoDynamics rolling road. Im from the car tuning sector so know that DynoDynamics are very reliable with their power readings. They can, as with all rolling roads, be manipulated to show higher than actual figures by unscrupulous operators but assuming the operators are doing the job right then then readings will be accurate.
Seems Maserati might be under quoting actual power output. I've a few friends that own tuning businesses and RRs I might take my car along, see what power it's running.
Also interesting to note was that he did an on the road side by side performance test with another standard GT and found no performance gain after the tune. I don't know if they just did full throttle redline shifting standing start acceleration tests or they also incorporated in gear roll on acceleration but the tests they did revealed no performance gain for the extra 35bhp and the owner concluded the remap to be a waste of money.
