I'm thinking of buying a Ducati Desmodici RR. Problem is that I've only recently started riding again and haven't got any NCB. Finding insurance for road use without NCB will either be impossible or ruinously expensive. However prices are rising and if I wait until I can get insurance I might have to pay £10'000 or more on top of today's prices. I'm thinking I could buy one now (if I can find a decent one at a reasonable price, SORN it and put it away in my garage until I can get insurance). I hoped I could get it added to my house insurance but my broker tells me that won't work. I know this is the Supercar section but perhaps there are people on here that have a car collection (that aren't currently used on the road) and have got fire and theft insurance for them. Or just know of insurance brokers that deal with more unusual requests.

Just got a quote after searching for laid up cover...£830. I did ask about cover for riding as well but was told would need full NCB. Not sure how they come up with £830. That isn't far off what I was paying for my 911 and that was worth more and I could drive it!

Meanwhile, just get a scooter, and get cover on that, to start to clock running.......
I've already got a bike I'm riding and building up NCB. A bit quicker than a scooter...

My insurance broker got back to me and said the company giving me house insurance had changed their mind and would cover it for £60 a year but would only charge from renewal
so would be no extra cost for this year. A result. Now just need to persuade the wife that a £50k bike is a good investment...
