I have often displayed my cars at circuits on race days, and at shows, often for charity, and found everyone who comes to look very careful and considerate of all the cars.

So I was really surprised and disappointed to come back to my McLaren at Silverstone on Sunday, where it had been parked in the Supercar display, to find someone's child had left nice sticky ice cream finger marks on the driver's door.

This is just lack of decent parental supervision. Given the revolting consistency of the ice cream, with luck it reappeared in recently digested form on the upholstery of whatever the parents had driven to the circuit in, and will prove nicely challenging to remove.

Sadly now I will think twice about showing in future.

Thanks Craig. You obviously think that's reasonable. I do not. Could easily have been a chip from a swinging camera, handbag or zip. It's a simple issue of respect for other people's stuff - look but be careful and please don't touch - and parents actually supervising their children and instilling the same values in them too. Oh, and a little more politeness in the world would be nice too!
