Hi all

A quick question. If you were just about to invest 80k of your hardest earned cash into either of the above cars what would it be? I am looking to not loose my shirt in 5 years when its paid for and possible resale is a factor. 80k and just above buys a later Gallardo 2007/8 as many of the 360 spiders are 2012/2 cars.

Yep typo I meant 2001-2005 spiders

That 360 spider is £30k overpriced at £80k so bear that in mind. I've no idea what the market is like for Gallardos though.

Eta that you say the 360s are 2011/12. The 360 ceased production in 2004.

Good reply this is what I am after

Gallardo over 360 for me. Newer car and better looking and performing IMHO

No brainer. Everyone loves a Lambo and the attention you will get will far exceed a 360. Cant believe they are even in the same price bracket. Some Ferrari's seem to be in an overvalued price bubble at the moment and I think you stand to lose more on a 360 once its bursts

I agree am interested to see which way things are heading with these cars it was hard enough getting down to these two models so I am really glad no one jumped in with get an Aston or 911 etc I already have an Ultima Evolution Ls3 which is nearly finished and was purchased through passion, So its not a performance thing with these two, its more an itch I have to scratch while I have the time left here on the planet

Who cares which ones gets the most attention..... buy the one YOU like...not what others like. You buy it for you not for the crowd.

I tend to agree. On the 430 v the Gallardo my budget was 80 this does not get you into a F430 with low miles and for sure not a manual.
I am going to stretch it a bit and most likely go for a Gallardo as they just seem less dated I guess inside etc and was curious to see what the general opinion was. I wish I had the money for a really late lambo but at around 200k, there is no way I could justify that sort of finance for 3 k miles a year

Then the next biggest issue is do I increase the budget just a bit more and get the later 2008 on Gallardo which I read is a much better car? Looks a bit sharper and has some extra HP but I don't know much more than that about the differences

test drive both, i had a real issue with headroom in the gallardo and came away disappointed (the e-gear was awful), decided it was to be a 360 manual spider! when i started looking i realised i couldn't get one in the condition i wanted in my initial budget so started looking further up the price range, which quickly put me into early 430 money, ended up with a 430 coupe manual in the end lol

Agreed

I might be biased, but a 360 Spider is a great companion to an Ultima GTR. smile

Looks great, sounds great and comes with that whole Ferrari thing thrown in for free.

My idea as the OP was that I had 80k to spend this ruled out a 430 spyder as I only wanted Rosso if its a Ferrari, and that is the only reason I did not compare the Gallardo with the 430, finance driven, not car models. I am not in the least bit concerned how fast they are, how they handle, if I can get a suitcase in etc, For me its a visual treat when I open the garage and the road experience and not losing my shirt come resale time. For what its worth I am still on the fence here!!

Ha ha I have got an itch for a prancing horse, but a nice 4 wheel drive Gallardo also fits the bill. I like your idea of trying both for a year or so. I better make my mind up soon as we are moving house and I can see it will end up being spent on that!! My only criteria for that is garage spaces and parking spaces off road, oh and level as the Ult has low clearance, the estate agents look at me like I am mad, as I really don't care much about the rooms etc I turned down an ideal place today as the drive in was too steep and low cars would ground!!

You won't go wrong no matter which side of the fence you come down on. Performance wise, neither will come close to the the raw, brutal performance of your Ultima but you will quickly feel far more comfortable driving either of them faster on the road than you would the Ult.

I like wings, vents, scoops and all the OTT stuff that you get with Lamborghinis, but the Ultima out-OTT's the Gallardo by a big margin. Throw an Aventador or Countach into the mix then it's a different ballgame.. but then it really would be a different ball game smile

Without getting into another "values" type thread, at £80k you could really try both, so run one for a year then change over without losing your shirt or taking too much risk. But to save the hassle, just get the Ferrari. You know you want to wink
