Doesn't seem to be much mention at all of the 'new' 600 bhp R8....any owners out there got any comments?...I am undecided on the styling, generally like it, it does look more modern to me than say the Ferrari 488, which to me is starting to look a bit dated. The only thing with the R8 styling is its a bit sort of dumpy from the front, nice from many angles, not sure on others, but as I say overall does look bang upto date & quite futuristic, very much iron mans stead

5.2 lambo V10 has got to go well & sound great, 4 wheel drive & audi build inside, not quite as 'loud' looking as a lambo....again ticking many boxes there for me...

so opinons & thoughts & experiences anyone?

In response to the 488 looking dated, yes I think it is slightly, It is not that different to a 458 , and that's been around since 2010, so the basic shape is 7 years old.
I have owned both & both very impressive cars, but styling wise I have just 'gone off' them a little , maybe after owning 3 458's a 458 spider & a 488 along the way its me that has got so used to the styling, but I don't think they are as good looking as I used to , so lets just say that then!

yes of course a 5.2 V10 naturally aspirated has to be a good thing!!that's my prime reason for consideration ..think a test drive might be In order...

Didn't take long, been out in an R8...

Firstly quite surprised that it feels smaller inside than a 458/488, really thought with it been german it would have more interior space, really does feel quite small. Annoyingly there is a bench sticks out behind the seats that seems to rob quite a bit of rear movement in the seat, so being tall I found that I had to have the seat backrest quite upright to allow legroom, or incline it more & have less legroom..hmm never thought I would find more space in an Italian 2 seater than a german one..but anyway not enough of a problem to be an issue. Car feels nice inside, do think again it feels more modern than Ferrari's, quite futuristic, again a bit tight, and the windscreen is very small letterbox view..seems more lambo than audi. Love the B&O sound, ventilation buttons etc are nice , feel good & look great, just a lovely quality feel to the interior, seats comfy too.
Virtual dash a bit glary , had part of the drive in the dark ,and couldn't dim it enough for my liking, even at the dimmest I found it a bit bright & distracting, lots of buttony things to have to get used to to change about all the stuff on the screen etc...but again felt pretty futuristic in a good way.
Engine sound ,pretty impressive, just the right amount for me, you can see it as a daily , smooth & refined in comfort & then in dynamic with loud exhaust etc has some lovely pops & bangs & a nice screech,..yep the sound is good for me
Now the surprise was it didn't feel that fast, the 458 felt faster..maybe its just the comfort inside or something that makes it feel more sedate, I think I need another longer drive in one, bit of a disappointment really performance wise, but it was greasy roads etc so never really gave it full beans, so need another go in the dry to judge it better etc
Styling...hmmm not loving it, but hot hating it either, positves are it looks bang upto date, fururistic, downside, its a bit pudgy , stubby in some ways
I car I could not be so worried about leaving out etc, and would use all year round , unlike the F cars which I have more pampered & used as A to A cars....Badge doesn't bother me, in fact I feel a lot more comfortable with the audi /r8 owner than I do being a Ferrari owner, so that's a positive.
Jury is out, will mull , maybe have another drive...impressed overall though , it certainly could be my everyday supercar

Porsches don't do it for me, well not the turbo's anyway, just not enough sound there, they feel so 'bland' , good & fast, but like a surgical instrument, too refinded & lacking character. The R8 is on a different level to the Porsche turbo , mainly due to the engine & sound of it. The one Porsche I have considered is the GT3 RS, but I really cannot get on with huge stuck on rear spoilers, just not for me at all. Now the 911 R is fantastic, basically GT3 RS without the spoiler, but no way at the prices they are at..£400k for a £130k car, madness
Yep the McLaren thing Is something to look at the 570 etc, also the 650s spider is something I keep toying with , nice with the top down etc ..but again the styling just does not wow me...maybe there in is my problem, when I got my first 458, I absolutely adored the look of the thing ,nothing came close, now I have got used to it , and as I say, I view it now as a bit dated, I struggle to see anything that takes me back to that kind of impact it had on me
ho hum....still the R8 is top of the list for me at the moment I think, 650S second...
mind you maybe just forget it all and buy myself a triumph bobber motorbike..now that's a cool looking thing!!

Porsche turbo really doesn't excite me....off for a test drive in a 991 gt3 RS...lets see if its good enough to make me forget its got the most ridiculous spoiler on the back!!...am excited about it though, universally seems to get fantastic praise...

Not sure about that reading the roadtests etc autocar rates the 911 GT3 RS 1st, speciale 2nd, 650s 3rd...and as I said it does get pretty stellar reviews from all , Evo/chris Harris/top gear etc etc...so I do think the 'special' porsches are in that league very much so
McLaren just doesn't really do it for me styling wise & the logo always reminds me of star trek , but heyho, the one that does float by boat is the 675 LT...but too much £££ for me, same with the speciale, bit too much

hmm yes I do know where you are coming from Mr Lambo, but I suppose its one of those car things, those car buffs that know an RS will appreciate the abilities etc and why one would chose to drive one, general public I should imagine do indeed pretty much laugh at the rear stuck on Halfords jobby...rest of the car looks nice, think the vents over the front wings & the stance etc, but yes the rear spoiler, not so sure I could put up with it, shame you cannot just unbolt it and run without it, might end up in a hedge or something!
we shall see will make my views after the drive...I always felt quite a wally in the F cars t be honest, a bit too much 'look at me' each to their own
think your all talking me back into a 458/488 at this rate

Well I am going to have to get used to the big spoiler because after a drive I have fallen in love with the 911 991 GT3 RS...what a fantastic drive, feel , sound, handling..its like stepping back in time. In this digital world, the RS is very much like putting your old vinyl LP's back on the turntable..not for everyone, but for me as a 3rd car, the 'out for a blast' car its perfect....
spoiler?..what spoiler, forgotton its there already

cheers Sone...the funny thing is it does actually feel as fast as the R8 I went out it, yes I am sure in numbers terms its not, but I think the rawness of the RS does make it feel faster. In fact took my 10 yr old out in both and he was convinced the Porsche was a lot faster, I think the noise & feel add to that , the cosseted feel of the audi makes it more sterile speed wise, but yes both great cars indeed
