If so, what did you do to resolve the problem?

I have managed to snap off a wing mirror. Luckily no other damage, it seems an aluminium strut has snapped inside the casing.

I did the same thing last year,you need to remove the complete mirror from the door seperate the base of the mirror from the top part unscrew the metal plate that connects the two parts together,you can then repair the metal plate with a metal glue leave for a few hours and then put it back together but you must be sure to join the metal plate perfectley if you dont the mirror wont fold.Good luck it is a bit tricky but better than buying a new one.It may be posible to do this with the mirror still connected to the door,i had to remove mine due to the wires being damaged.

Thanks for that, so a metal glue is strong enough?? What glue did you use? Bare in mind I know nothing about this type of thing!

Thanks for all your replies. I have had a mate around and dismantled the door, what a total nightmare it is! Nothing is made easy to repair on these cars! Anyway, he has an aluminium welder and is going to try and weld the parts back together. This should work but is dependant on the quality of the aluminium. If this fails, its going to have to be the glue option.

I did the same thing on the Gallardo about 6 months ago, called the dealer and he said the whole unit had to be replaced at a cost of about £1200. Now mine was literally hanging off, so they might be able to do something with your but from what the dealer told me I doubt it. Afraid you’re just going to have to get a new one. Just think it could have been a lot worse.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that I wont need to go down that road! I dont understand how a dealer can justify that cost. Oh, mine was hanging off too, by the cable. So was that £1200 inc labour??

All fixed and as good as new. A friend (Theneedforspeed) fixed it. Removed the door card, unbolted the wing mirror, removed the broken part from the mirror housing, welded it back together. Once everything was reassembled you would never know it ever broke. It was quite a tedious process, and I will try not to snap any more mirrors!
