Sunday Service 27/04: Mercedes-Benz World

Packed 2014 SS calendar continues with a return to the Mercedes-Benz World very soon

You know what to expect from a PH Sunday Service now. But as well as the normal Sunday Service breakfast rolls and chatting with your fellow PHers, the MBW guys have laid on a few treats.

You will be able to see the magnificent G63 AMG 6x6 in the metal and the Fortec Motorsport team will be displaying its awesome SLS AMG GT3 inside the AMG Performance Gallery, which we'll have exclusive access to. On display also will be a PHer's Mercedes E300 W124. But it's no regular old Shed, the owner having carefully restored the car over the past few months having bought it unseen from a popular auction site with 230,000 miles. You can have a read of the restoration story here and see the car in the metal on the 27th.

Furthermore, there will be exhilarating passenger rides available around the track between 10:00 and 11:00 in one of the following: S63 AMG, SLS AMG GT, C63 AMG Black Series and E63 AMG S with prices starting from just £10 dependant on which vehicle you choose.

A new addition to Sunday Services at MBW are driving taster sessions in various AMG cars at just £30 for 15 minutes. These will run from 11:00 until 13:00 with the possibility of returning to passenger rides before 13:00 dependant on demand for the driver taster sessions.

Both the passenger rides and driver taster sessions are bookable on the day and will be on a first come first served basis. It's therefore worth booking these ASAP on the day to avoid disappointment.

At 13:00 we will be able to see the awesome SLS AMG GT3 car displaying outside with the Silver Arrows shortly after it at 13:10 with our parking area being the perfect place to get a good view.

The guys at MBW have asked that we vacate the parking area as soon as the Silver Arrows finish their display to allow the parking area to be opened for experiences so please bear this in mind.

We have 600 spaces and these always fill up quickly so make sure you put your name on the calendar here post haste. Remember the Sunday Service starts at 9:00 so there's no need to be there any earlier!

For those of you that haven't been before, the address is:
Mercedes-Benz World,
Brooklands Drive,
Weybridge,
Surrey KT13 0SL.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Haven't been able to make any Sunday Services at Mercedes-Benz World yet, fingers crossed!

Is there any lower age limit on the pax rides? I know a 7 year old who would love a ride in an SLS.

Woah. Where did all the numbers go? Suddenly there's space on the list.
Wow, that's a rarity. Are so many PHers and their cars not waterproof then wink

Anyone grabbing a grotty McDonalds breakfast at Beaconsfield before heading down?

What time you going to be there?
I live just down the road in High Wycombe....
Depends on what time I can drag #1 son out of bed, but probably about 7.45 so we can head off just after 8.

I'll be the sleepy-looking bald bloke getting out of a badly-parked C220 estate smile

That S63 AMG they were using sounded broken after a few laps. Sounded like it needed some attention.
Yes, after 30-40 minutes it sounded like a brake heatshield or something rubbing when at low speed, but it disappeared when then thing was up to 'operating speed'. When you think of the abuse the brakes were taking to slow two-and-a-bit tonnes down from 100mph lap after lap it's not suprising something maybe warped or expanded that much.

My and the boy opted for a passenger ride in the S63 as it seemed like the daftest option that we could both go in. The upsides were the ludicrous incongruity of the speed and luxury, but there was a slight downside of hardly being able to hear the glorious motor getting caned.

The other reason I picked it was to quiz the driver on the difference between the S63 and the S65 - a helluva difference according to him - which surprised me.

After all, of the main manufacturers only Mercedes seem to say "Hmmm, twin-turbo V8 with 577hp - could do with a bit more, maybe?" and lump a V12 in there.

To hear him talk about the S65 really having "seamless power, anywhere in the rev range" when being piloted in a car which, by any standards, displays exactly that was a bit odd!

Shows how much those boys (and girls) are spoiled by their profession. Not jealous at all. No, definitely not...
