  1. ##Mods - I've cleared this request through James Drake and he's happy as as long as don't mention the charity involved####
Hi there, a friend has asked me to post this up. He's after 15 volunteer drivers with "fast &/or interesting" cars who can help out providing passenger rides at a charity event at Bruntingthorpe on the 6th August.

The event is well established after being ran for the past 14 year & this will be my third time out. It's a great day out with plenty of opportunity to show off your pride and joy but please be aware that this is not a track day, it is for passenger rides, so please drive appropriately.

If you're interested then please contact Darren.Cardew@nimlok.co.uk who can provide you with much more details about the day and the charity involved.

Alternatively, if you want more info about the layout of the day I can answer but please remember I can't answer any questions about the charity involved in this thread as I don't want another thread removed.

Cheers!

That is madness, there is at least two other threads on this page alone which name a charity, would be interesting to find out the reason behind it.
They may have asked for permission to name the charity beforehand, although after getting the OK from James I did notice a few other threads about the event from the previous years.

Anyway back to the original topic, I would offer but I will be there anyway on the Cobra gate. Good day out and gives you the chance to give it some beans (in an appropriate way of course).
Cool, I'll be at the GT40 gate with my RS6!

Zippee - There is no set time to stay until, if you need to leave then you are free to do so at any time (some people leave at lunch to refuel etc). The surface gets swept the day before but the long runway straight is never perfectly clean and, as that is where most of the cars will be in close proximity, there will be some people who get stone damage unfortunately.

MrVert - It's 7am to 5pm. Drivers are told to arrive about 2hrs early than the public so they can setup the passenger gates, do a sighting lap and get briefed on track rules etc. Every year I've been those two hours are carnage with very few people actually knowing whats going on so be prepared to be messed about. I've also not seen the actual passenger rides ever start on time either, it's usually 9.30-ish due to the confusion. It's the one area that could/should really be improved on massively for me.

Op did you contact Nigel O ? Maybe he would do it again.
Hi there, I can only ask for people to contact Darren directly if they would like to volunteer as I have nothing to do with the event, I'm just another volunteer with a PH account biggrin

Stone chips - The worst bit is the long straight at the end where you'll get anywhere from 4 to 8 cars 50-200m infront of you all doing 100mph+ and kicking up stones. The runway has lots of lines down it creating "lanes" so it's best to try and find a "lane" that doesn't have a car infront of you and you'll be fine but that still doesn't stop the occasional driver who is braking at the end from crossing infront of you.

The purpley Mclaren last year caused two windscreen chips and a bonnet chip to my car when he was about 100m infront of me and moved from my right across me to my left under braking at the end of the straight, which was a the only time I got a chip in 2 years.

The passes for the event are starting to be e-mailed out to people now so if you still want to volunteer then please contact Darren via his e-mail in the OP ASAP.

One addition from ASDA this year is that, on the day, you must bring proof that the vehicle is Taxed, Insured and MOT'd before being allowed on track.

Again if you have any questions please contact Darren directly!

l6rth - Unfortunately the day is run for a large Supermarkets own charity and only employees and their families can attend (like a big "thank you" summer party).

AdiT - They are Powerpoint files so you need powerpoint. There's a free Microsoft viewer available to download here - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmat...

There should be 2 e-mails (one track-side pass and one car invite) with each one having a Powerpoint file and another file called ATT00001. This is just a text file which contains a plain text copy of the e-mail and this can be deleted.

You can open this file with "Notepad.exe" on a Windows PC, just right click the file once it's been downloaded, select "Open With" and then select Notepad from the list.

The supermarket involved seem determined to make this years event as difficult as possible to help with. Considering the "management" actively tried to stop this years event from going ahead (corporate mentality) I'm wondering they are hoping for it to be such a disappointment this year (lower donation figure) it gives them the excuse to fold it up?

Sadly I'm not able to do this years as my shiny new brakes which *should* have been fitted this week are still sat in the boot of my car and my current pads are far too low to last more than a few 160mph+ stops before being uber dead.

I've just had an e-mail from Darren, which he's asked me to post, thanking everyone for giving their time to such a good cause.

I'm gutted I couldn't go but at least another RS6 was there to uphold the RS badge biggrin

Hi Ian

It was fantastic. We had a brilliant mix of cars, some from last year, some new ones....

Cobra
Cobra
Gt40
Gt40
Mercedes c63
Mercedes c63
Viper
Fury r1
Rs6
Rs4
Mustang
Supra (600 bhp - very popular with chavs)
Turbo technics Subaru
BMW M3
BMW M3 track car
Volvo touring car
Morgan v8
Lotus Evoque (amazing car!)
Ultima
Porsche 911 turbo (he was crb checked, so took loads of kids out)
Probably a couple more that I've forgotten

We managed to get a double gate due to a couple of gates not showing up (12 lanyards) and kept a full contingent until mid afternoon when people started running out of fuel, tyres and brakes.

Not sure of the final takings for our gate, but our rough count was between £2,200 and £2,500 ish. That equates to between 450 and 500 laps! Way up on last year!

It's one of the issues which probably won't change. Some people forget it's a "Passenger Ride" day and treat it like a track day or, even worse, like a race and get the old "red mist" descending. However I found that any issues which were reported to the Marshalls were dealt with instantly.

For example last year I over took a Porsche Cayenne (the 4x4) down the straight, passing on his left as briefed. On the very next lap I did the same again and, even though he was on the straight, he swerved across to block me from overtaking whilst we were doing 110mph+. I had to brake heavily and swerve to the right, just missing his rear, to avoid being pushed into the HGV lane on the left. After a calming down and checking my passenger was OK I reported him to the Marshalls, showed them the footage caught on my dash camera and he was removed from the event.
