I have a 57 reg fabia 1.2 3 cylinder, done about 70k miles.
been having weird noises so took to local Skoda dealer and they reckon it needs a new gearbox and quoting £2500 for new one inc fitting. This is about what the car is worth
They have nothing to do with recon' parts but will fit a recon gearbox if I source one.

would be grateful for any advice, is fitting a recon' gearbox a bad idea? can anyone recommend a decent reliable company (we are in Surrey) or give an idea of price.
any help or advice appreciated.

cheers, I have spoken to a gearbox specialist and they reckon about £1,000 to rebuild the gearbox, including labour and a new clutch.
The bearings have failed on the existing gearbox apparently
