Looking to have this process done on a race car gear set and some engine components, has anybody found any benefits or any problems with it?

We use shot peened and REM superfinished gears and had great results, we had a problem with 2nd gear failure that could not be changed due to homologation issues and since having the specific ratio treated have not had another failure. We had the work done by a company called Sandwell.
Were the gears shot peened first? Or different processes on different gears? Thanks.
