Hi All…looking for an affordable circa 300hp v8 for transplant into an entirely different vehicle and the jag 4.0 V8 looks like a contender. affordable, lots on e-bay etc and just under 300 horses...

Does anyone know if the engine makes a good transplant in terms of ECU etc. Would like to just the engine, ECU, looms etc and just hook it up to pump and exhaust / inlet and get it running…

Thanks.

Virgil..

Cheers guys.

Jag engine will be an auto, but need to mate it to a Ford 6 sp rear drive box (fly from target vehicle's engine)

Target is a SWB Transit. My diesel lump is on it's last legs and as it's only an occasional tip run and B&QW transport, fancied something a bit fun. But needs to be on a budget. Jag V8 seemed a good choice as it's at least got some tenuous linked DNA ;-)

Looking for circa 300bhp and reasonably straight forward..

Having a quick google - lexus 4.6 or 5.7 look quite interesting...got a feeling they might be a bit short on the ground on e-bay for 500quid...

Any ideas how easy the lexus ECU is to transplant and if it can be seperated (electronically) from the auto box??

Cheapest option, but one that requires a bit of phaff, is to buy a bent but working jag, and put the engine and gearbox into the van, with all the necessary wiring / modules etc. At least, by starting with a working car, you can experiment to see which electrical wires / units are needed for it to run!

I'd just use the Jag autobox as it'll save the cost of an adaptor plate and is rated for the engine driving it ;-)
I hear what your saying, but I've got a BMW550 estate as a daily driver. 4.8 V8, 360BHP good fun, but auto...I just couldn't consider the transplant with an autobox...would rather keep the 90hp 'half turbo' diesel and the existing 5 speed...;-)

Just buy a complete LS400 car for less than £1k...and have some change too. That will get you the ultra reliable 4.0 engine that has been swapped countless times.

The newer you go the more complicated you get and more expensive.

Or find an old BMW V8 and manual box.
Cheers chaps, will have a google...
