I have a 2007 Mini one with 110,000 miles on the clock. The gear lever seems to have become a bit slack and does not return to the central position as forcefully as it used to when the car was new (particularly when the weather is very cold). I would guess that a return spring must be worn somewhere. This is not a massive problem and the car drives perfectly as it is but I would like to know whether this can be easily fixed or is it likely to be expensive?

Thanks Oilyscouse,

My gear lever isn't stiff though, it is floppy. If I push it left or right it stays at an angle rather than springing back to vertical. It isn't a problem in everyday use, it just means that you have to be positive with your location of the gears. Do you think that the E Bay repair kit is still the correct part that is needed?

Hi CH427,
Do you remember how much it cost?

Hi Pumaracing,

I wouldn't be able to do that I'm afraid, I would have to get Mini or an independent garage to do it. If it is a detente spring, what sort of cost should I expect to get it done?
