Hi all
One for the mappers / rolling road peeps out there ..

I run an old analogue dyno dynamics 450 .. it works great as these old workhorses tend to do .. however it has neither a tacho interface or a printer and I also would like to update to something newer just for the heck of it (always the best reason!)

I've had two DD450s .. the first supplied by mike gurney and the second by gerry gaffney .. both gave fab service ..
I notice they each sell dyno developments and mainline dynos .. does anyone have experience of these two dynos and what are your thoughts?
Also the entry level dyno dynamics (dynotech) doesn't seem so well received .. is there any particular reason?
What are people's thoughts on say a sub 35k gb pounds two wheel drive dyno these days. I don't really keep up with the market so don't have much of an idea what's actually about.

^^ how does that get the signal to the dyno so it plots the power v engine revs though? At the moment I'm doing what everyone else does with no tacho input and use the roller speed ratio v engine revs but I miss the old tacho interface of my previous dyno ..

I'm going to fire some emails off to people and see what they say of their own dynos, but naturally they're going to be (slightly) biased. Would much prefer some first hand experience.
Spending money isn't a problem, I'd just like something good and new that works right out of the box smile plus something new and shiny smile

There's a tacho interface box that seems to be as rare as hen's teeth that's required .. you spec that when you order your dyno new and mine like many others obviously wasn't specced that way from new.
There's the digital update that you can do to bring the dyno up to current spec but from what I've read that doesn't seem to be a seamless proceedure, and isn't cheap either. I can sell my current dyno or p/ex it to offset the cost of new somewhat (old DD450s seem to fetch decent money and mine is all paid for outright) .. I'm probably looking at finding 16K to get myself into a new spangly dyno .. just want to know what's on the market to shortlist.
I've mailed Mike and Gerry already .. will fire a few other messages out there and see what deals can be done smile

yep dyno dynamics provided several ways including inductive clamps, mats to go over the engine, I made a breakout plug to like to injectors .. but that all got fed into two boxes, one a grey little box and one a big red box (forgive me if it gets too technical lol) .. before getting fed into the back of the dyno computer itself. I have nice of that equipment on this dyno and it's incredibly difficult to come by it secondhand ..
at the moment i just use the speed of the rollers with a ratio in to give a guesstimate of engine revs. I'd like something a bit better than that for the next dyno.
Thanks for all comments so far. Mike Gurney has emailed me back so he goes to the top of the pile for promptness. That's either good or bad depending on your point of view .. wink

Hi .. sadly no need for 4wd as I only deal in small light 2wd cars, the scooby and evo and skyline guys are already well catered for smile

Yep Mark at DD is going to email me some prices later, cheers.
Fortunately I still work with old-school cars so the more modern injection and ignition systems aren't things I come across thankfully, though I appreciate it must be a real issue for modern car tuners.
