Hi all,

In December I will be transferring my insurance from a lowly 1990 Micra to a Volvo 960 estate...however, the plan is not to sell/scrap the Micra, but more to build it as a track car.

My current engine is rather stuffed (230k, oil+water mixing and the block is cracked)-so, I'm thinking strip it and ground up build with custom suspension, hubs and such...however the thought crossed my mind of basically put the running gear and drivetrain from a VAG 4motion (AWD) system and 1.8t lump into it with a fair bit of welding and a fair bit more swearing.

PLEASE NOTE: The car will not be for road use after this (mainly as it'd cost too much to insure...)

Can anybody think of any serious reasons why it would be a total pain in the arse other than massive welding costs and lots of custom bits of drivetrain.

@nsa-a rollcage was planned...the levels of rebuild would bring rigidity seeing as I'm considering what is essentially a complete overhaul of the suspension...

@MaxTorque - In all honesty a Mk2 Golf, or any Golf for that matter isn't that interesting to me, I half wanted to do something different...
