Induction kit help

Hi all,

I bought a k&n induction kit for my polo 9n3 gti, it's the one made specifically for my car, however I'm having trouble fitting it! Part of the installation is to put the filter adapter onto the maf, however the maf is about a mm to big for the adapter, should I get some sand paper and remove a small amount of rubber to make it fit? Or is there another way as its only a mm away from fitting

Thanks for the help, all sorted now, soaked in boiling water then a hell of a lot of force and it went in!
