Ford Focus MK2 2006 Petrol - Consuming Engine Oil quick
Discussion
My car seems to be consuming Engine Oil (5w 30 Semi Synth) quite quick, I topped up exactly a month ago to the Max level. In 1 month it has come to the Min mark.
There are no obvious signs of a leak. I made sure I was on level ground when i checked on both occasions.
Is this amount of oil consumption normal on a 10 year old car (96k)?
My driving is mainly local (less than 10miles a day) 5-6 days a week.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The Mk2 2 Focus is a Duratec, not a Zetec and the PCV is at the front of the block between the inlet manifold and the crankcase.
There are 2 likely causes of your problem:-
PCV failed and is allowing oil to be pulled from the crankcase into the manifold. The manifold has long runners which join together in a small box shaped section low down at the front of the engine. This is probably full of oil on your car and the manifold will need removing to empty it.
If yours is the 1.8 Duratec the oil control rings on these have a tendency of becoming stuck in their grooves. Consequence is obvious but more difficult to fix.
If I were in your position (and I have been previously) I would remove the inlet manifold, empty it and blank off the PCV (easy once inlet removed). If the fault goes away replace the valve, if not it's a bigger decision. I took the pistons out with the engine in the car to replace the rings as the PCV valve was not the issue on mine.
Thanks, it's a 1.6 engine. Is this an easy enough job to do for a beginner like myself? If so could you forward any video links that would help. There are 2 likely causes of your problem:-

Also, what do you mean by 'blank off the PCV'?
