Exhaust manifold sealant

I have a classic car which has a three-part exhaust manifold which "telescopes" together - but I do not know how it was sealed or whatever jointing was used (but no longer available anyway).

The problem therefore is what can I use for jointing, which would then require the thee parts to be pressed together as the whole asssembly as it is slid onto the studs.

Can anyone suggest a compressable material - or a very high temperature silicone type sealant which would handle the heat but remain sufficiently flexible to allow for thermal expansion and contraction etc.

Best suggestion gets a (slow) ride in a sleeve valve Daimler!!!
