Hi All, would really appreciate some advice on a fault code with dsg gearbox.
I've got a 63plate 1.6 skoda Octavia SE DSG Auto with only 38k that I bought from a dealers a couple of months ago. The gearbox light has only come on once and there is the fault code saying stuck in 5th gear. The car drives perfectly with smooth changes and the light has not come on since. I only have 1000 miles left b4 the warranty runs out. I have tried to use the warranty to get a local garage to have a look at it but the warranty is not worth the paper it's written on and they only pay max £1k, don't pay diagnostics max 40/hr labour etc etc

The Main dealers I spoke to said 2.5 hr diagnostics to find out weather needs new clutch plates or an entire new gearbox. Another gearbox specialist has said that it needs a gearbox overhaul for 3k. I've looked at second hand 1.6 DSG gearboxs and they go for £700-£1000. Maybe £400 to fit it =£1400? Is that figure too optimistic? Im presuming u can use any DSG 1.6 diesel gearbox or are they model specific?

I have been in touch with the garage where I bought it from and they have said bring it to them and they will take out the gearbox, send it away and get it sorted. Sounds great but the car will be off the road for 1 week+ (it's a taxi so this could equate to £1500+ lost earnings) and the garage is 2 hours away from where I live.

Could this be a one off? Could it just be a dodgy sensor? I'm thinking just leaving it and accepting that if it goes wrong I'll have to pay £1300-£1500 for new gearbox....? There are no other faults other than this light coming on once about a week ago

If anyone has had anything similar I'd really appreciate any advice😀

Cheers for your input. I'm in Bournemouth. I'm going to take car back to dealers and let them sort it. It's too major a problem just to ignore, even if it turns out to be nothing serious. Apparently it can be either an intermittent fault or a static fault. If it's a static fault it will need complete gearbox overhaul.
